Motorguide trolling motor

The first thing to check,(After making SURE the electricity is disconnected to the trolling-motor) remove the propeller and see if the shear-pin (Usually made of brass) in in place and not sheared/broken.
If it is, your local marine shop should be able to provide a new one. I always carry spares. If the pin is OK, the windings may have an electrical fault that would require a factory-repair.

I am having raqising my trolling up from the water using the rope . I have to trip the latch with a screw driver to get it to release every time

It sounds to me like you have a bent eye shaft (the location where the rope is tied is bent). Before you go and buy one, make sure to check for rust in the areas where the trolling motor releases. If you have no rust chances are good that you'll need to order an eye shaft.

How to get wires out of the shaft?

carefully drill out
the screws the are not removable to remove the cover. you will have to take apart the motor housing marking the outside for orientation for reassembly. this is critical as it could run backwards if improperly reassembled. you will need a seal kit for the motor as well. the wires that go to the coil pack in the nosecone are not removable. call the 800 number on the upper part of the motor for minn kota to ask any questions and to order new screws and a seal kit and any other needed parts. make sure motor is not attached to the battery at any time you are working on it. good luck.

My trolling motor maxxum 74# thrust feels like i have broken something in the shaft. It is almost impossible to turn and everything in the head looks fine (cables,gears,etc.). What is in the shaft that...

Here's a schematic for your motor:
Maxxum 74 Bowmount
I suspect the the bearings and cups are damaged and binding the tubes. Have a look at key #'s95, 78, 58, 59, 78A, 79. as these are the actual brgs and cups.
Good luck on your repair!

Mounting a sonor/transducer on a MinnKota Riptide ST

Did the unit come with a strap to mount the transducer to a bow mount electric? Most units do... If not there is probably one available for the unit as an aftermarket accessory or accessory from the manufacturer... Regarding the transducer wire, just wrap and rout this up the front of the bow mount motor shaft so when you pull the motor up and secure it, it is not going to get in the way. You could cable tie the cord down near the bottom of the shaft and one up near the top where they wont interfere with the motor bracket when the motor is positioned up on the boat.

Hello dtspins2. Your footswitch is stuck. Disconnect the DC. Remove the bottom of the foot control, check the wiring for insulation broken off and wires shorting out, and disconnect a wire(note color of wires) from switch, reconnect power to confirm motor don't run. Remove the switch and contact your local electrical supply store(may cost less) or marine store for replacement. Good Luck.
