Question about AEG Lavamat 16810 Front Load Washer/Dryer
The machine is about 4 years old. Washing works OK, but the dryer has developed a fault. First choosing the preset drying options (iron dry / cupboard dry) resulted in a drying session that stopped after about ten minutes. The machine still worked correctly though if I set a specific drying time (eg 90 minutes). Now that option fails too. Whatever time I set, the cycle starts, but after about a minute the timer countdown goes muchh too fast, and after about ten minutes it drops to zero, and the cycle ends. The door stays locked until I switch off the machine, then on again, when the door lock releases after a several seconds. Any ideas? With the current bout of cool wet weather, I could do with having my dryer back, and AEG service network doesn't cover my postcode.
I suggest checking the moister sensor and or cycling thermostat. the hi limit thermostat as well, with a meter for continuity. other wise you may have a bad timer

Ok, the motor windings are bad. the A.C. hum is a warning that the motor will sound when the windings are separated or shorting. its unable to hold a balanced current.the motor will actually stop soon if it isn't repaired.

The lock is rubbish on this machine but as a temporary measure you can feed a string down behind the door lock from the top and out the bottom. Then yank it to the left to open the lock. It will take a few tries but you get the hang of it!
We got sick of this so ordered a new lock off the net. I basically had to break the old mechanism to fit the new one because the door layers were so strongly glued together. Now fitted, the lock works perfectly but the machine thinks the door's open the whole time! Next step is either new door or new machine. Great.
