Can i adjust the idle air control valve on my 2005 Pontiac Grand Am

No.
  • Regulates the amount of air entering the engine during idle
  • When bad, vehicle could experience high or low idle, engine dies at idle and/or severe high idle possibly causing internal engine damage and safety issues

My 2005 dies at low idle always starts back up but dies alot especially in the day when it is hot. I think it is the mass air flow sensor but would like other opinions.

More likely an "idle bypass" setting, or it just needs cleaning. The MAF sensor doesn't have much to sense at idle.

Replace the idle valve with a factory one and remove the negative battery negative cable for 5 minutes to reset the idle control system to base line settings.

A-c warm at idle cool moving down road

may have partial restriction. and while driving down the road the compressor is moving faster and forcing past the restriction. try changing the filters in the a/c line.

1996 f250 gasoline v8 - died and will not restart

If the defroster was on then the air cond compressor was running.and you may want to add that to your list of things to check .the a/c is used in winter on defrost to help remove moisture from the air and the windshield

I am guessing here w/o much info, 1 of maybe 4 things, idle speed contoller motor, low fuel pressure, dirty air filter, or lastly, carbon buildup on the throttle body throat. When cold idle the carbon blocks off the little needed air and the engines will run rough or just die.
