SOURCE: My key won't open the trunk of my car. Jaguar XJ6

May not be the answer but something I just learned. I was handed the "key" to my aunt's XJ6 and she asked me to clean it up for her,,, but what I found was that the "key" she handed me was the VALET key and would not open the trunk. I had to go back and get the other key from her. The VALET key was green while the masters that open all are black.

SOURCE: my jaguar x-type 04, remote lock does not work,

Hi,

I have a similar problem in my x type. Although if I press unlock button on the key first and then use the metalic key to unlock it dissables the alarm.

Also according to the manual if you unlock by the metalic key the car starts a beeping sound its I think 15-20 second timer within which you should put the key and start the ignition (don't need to start the engin) this will dissarm the alarm if not the alarm will go off in 15-20 second.

Hope this information is of any use, am trying to get hold of Jaguar dealers to fix this issue. If you come accross any solution please do let me know too

if your just programming the fob to the module and it has not been replaced and your just needing a manual reset, then follow the folowing procedure:

1 Insert key into ignition
2 Turn key to 'I"
3 Turn key "II" and back to 'I' quickly 4 times
4 Alarm system will chime once when key is back to 'I' for the
fourth time
5 Remove key from ignition
6 Press any button on each key fob and alarm system will chime

My 67 year old husband saved all his life for a Jaguar. Well now he's got one; against my better judgement. He loves this car. It is his retirement gift to himself. Now we have the car it has all these...

Sorry to hear this. The keys - if correct for the car will open the door manually with no need for electrical assistance. If the fob fails the correct action to take is to open the door manually with the key and immediately put the key in the ignition and start the car. If you open the door manually you will hear a chime - this is counting down to sounding the alarm as it knows the door has been opened but not with the fob which is used to reset the alarm. It may be that the car has not been opened with the key for many years and the door locks are corroded - try spraying WD40 into the locks and work them with the key. Failing all the above - its call the Mechs time.
Hope this helps - good luck.

If the car goes "beep beep" when you try to lock the doors something is still open.
otherwise
Sounds like a defective keyfob try a new battery, try your spare if you have one.
If you don't have a spare you should get one anyway.
You can match your new keyfob to the car by following instructions here:= http://www.bluejag.co.uk/X-Type-keyfob-reprogramming.php

How do you unlock the car door of 1996 jaguar xj6 if the battery is dead? tried opening with the key manually; lock does not pop all the way up; only partially; therefore it remains locked

Please consider the following...
15 year old car.
Normally uses remote unlock (key remains unused).

Possible solution, open keyhole cover by particially inserting key. Place WD-40 or other silicone spray lube in the key hole (lots). Operate the key several times... eventually, it will clean the unused parts and open the door.
