Nvidia quardo fx 3500 / Dell Precision 690

Hi I have a Dell precision 690 workstation fitted with an Nvidia Quardro 3500 fx card. I have encountered win sys errors recently (blue screen) when using solidworks & now when I open for example sketchup the screen flashes up black then back to the windows screen & repeats. I have to manually shut down (it is pretty much a crash).

I am presuming this is a problem with the card ? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Matt

-   I have the same system and the same problem, however a temporary fix is:
Under tools, click on options and then under the performance section, "use Software OpenGL" is the check box all the way on the bottom but you can only change it when no document is open.-   Jerry Pham

-   I have a Dell 690 with the same FX3500 and the unit crashes about once every 10 days. The 690 has been nothing but a disaster, gold tech support has been great however they have NOT been able to fix the issue. The crashes have been blamed on driver issues. Today I followed the Nvidia sites recommendation to remove all Nvidia drivers using Control Panel prior to installing the new Nvidia driver for the FX3500, well currently my 690 is dead and will not reboot. Dell so called Customer Service is RUDE and Hubris, they informed me: "if I did not want a refurbished replacement unit i could just live with what i had". Dell is sending a new 3500 video card thanks to tech support. However we do have a lemon and they NO longer offer the FX3500 card, it has been replaced with the FX1700.

This sounds like it could be a driver issue. I have seen solidworks cause crashes and lock-ups whedn any microsoft applications are running, most notably outlook. Assuming you have plenty of memory (2Gb+ essential) and all latest service packs/drivers, it could be a problem with the graphics card, possibly an overheating issue.
