ed, be sure there is nothing wrapped around the blades. lower the deck and be sure the belt is around all of the pullys. If the belt comes off one of the pulleys or the pulley on the engine it may feel normal but it wont engage the blades.
Hi Rob, The links below are YouTube videos that might get you out of trouble... Also there's videos down the right side of the links that may help as well.............. CHEERS.. Sounds like someone has been working on the wiring, probably trying to bypass the reverse cut out switches . If you follow your steer control lever down under the plastic console covers there will be a switch, one on each steer lever by where it hinges. I don't think the switch is bad because it would not work at all if it was.It is like a door bell switch, when you pull back on the steer control lever it pushes it in and disconects the circuit to the PTO switch and the blades quit until you push them forwards and lets the curent through again. Also check the push pull PTO switch .Every safety switch on the tractor will meet at that switch and plug into it, . That model cub RZT50 has to have the worst switches ever made, but they are available and cheap on ebay. It thinks that the PTO is on. Do you have two different key positions? If so try both for a temp fix. If not it's probably a linkage or switch problem.
Assuming it is the electric PTO you are asking about, they are mounted to the bottom of the crankshaft. There is 1 bolt up thru the center. Find the power wires running to it, and unplug them, should be fairly close to the pto. Then take out the bolt, and the clutch should then slide down and off. You may have to remove the mower deck to get good access.
normally they work by spring lock system, follow the bar under the hood or engine and check if any broken or missing spring or parts often bended by running over things
Many machines have a micro switch on the shift lever, it is to stop you mowing in reverse, maybe this switch is sticking, some machines have a position on the ignition switch to turn this function off.
