Re: maytag atlantis washer model# mav6451aww

Your first question I need a little more information. What kind of noise is it? Is it a squeek, or a roar, or like rocks in the tub? The second answer is more than likely a timer problem. This part (Maytag # 22004189) costs around $60 to $75 depending on where you live. Run that part number through eBay for special deals sometimes for those parts. Be sure you find out what that noise is first. If you have a transmission or bearing going bad, that could be a costly repair. Let me know what that noise sounds like, and we'll go from there. Jim

Maytag mav6451aww squeals loudly during spin cycle

The squeal you here is from the drain pump going out. I have replaced so many of these it's not funny. The new pumps are redesigned. All you need to do is remove the belt from the bottom, open the access panel on the rear left side (as you look at from the rear), remove the three bolts and pull the pump out. put the new one on in the reverse order. Here is the new pump.

The washer emits a foul odor when washer first

You have the beginning of a detergent and/or softener residue buildup on the inside of the plastic outer drum of your clothes washing machine. Mold and bacteria need a moist, dark environment and a food source to grow. This residue is the food source. This can be a major health concern. See:

We can't change the environment of the washer but we can lessen the "food source" by reducing detergent and fabric softener use.
Do an internet search on "Smelly Washer Reviews" to see what you can do about the problem of mold odor in your washer, towels and clothing.
After your washer odor is gone you'll need to change washing habits so mold and bacteria don't return. Go to the blog page at to read the featured posts on the left side of the page on the cause of the problem and what to do for extreme cases of washer mold odor.

Maytag atlantis makes noise when in agitation

depending on what the noise sounds like,
it could be a couple of things
1. the belt is slipping
2. the aggitator is slipping
3 there is something in the pump
if you can take the front off,
two clips between top and front
then you should be able to see the pump
put your hand on it
sometimes when things get through the pumlp
it ruins the brearing and it sounds ike a screech

In spin cycle machine makes squeaky noise.

Your bearings could be going out, causing excess stress on the belt. Take the back off of the washer and check the belt tension. If there IS something stuck back there, you'll be able to see it.

Grinding Noise during spin and wash cycles but it' working ok

#1 issue have had with those as a repairman is the pump.the spot welds break and the pump rubs metal to metal also the belt can wear and can get somthing in the inner tub in those little holes[ie..nail]and when the tub moves it look at pump, belt motor pulley.tilt washer back .rest on wall and you can inspect all from there.God bless, tom

If your timer has a gray rubber ring on it, the timer is in 4 pieces. Pull the top middle part out. Then there's a white locking piece in the center. Once that's out the other 2 pieces will pull out. Note: The photo shows the top cover removed. The locking pin is the white center. RanchMom
