Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

Only 1 remote will work at a time

I have a Craftsman 1/2 HP GDO (Model #13953675SRT2). I have two Craftsman 3 button remotes. I have slavishly followed the directions in the user's manual and can easily program 1 opener with all functionality (open, light control). The opener will not accept programming to allow the second remote to open the door. If I clear all programming (as outlined in the user's manual), the second remote can then be setup to open the door, control the light, etc. At this point however, the first remote - that did work - cannot now be added as a controller. It doesn't appear to be a battery issue since both remotes can be added - just not at the same time. I have had this GDO since we built the house - 10 years ago. All remotes worked originally. Is this a reciever/logic board issue? Does anyone have any ideas?

One of your remotes has reverted to an earlier technology and they will no longer work with each other. You need to purchase a new remote making sure you get the same model number. Then you will find you can program 2 that will work with each other and 1 that will not. Remove the battery from the bad remote and toss it so that it doesn't cause problems down the road.

When I moved into my house, I didn't get the 4 digit code for my garage door opener from the previous owner. Is there anyway to reset the access code?

Get all the remotes together. At the end of the GDO where the wires are connected you will find a "Smart" button. Press and hold the button for 10 seconds. the led should lite then go out. This clears all the codes.
Press and release the smart button. Then press the button on the 1st remote. The light(s) on the GDO will flash on and off. This remote should now work.
Perform the procedure again for each of the remotes to enter the codes to memory.
Perform the same procedure for the keyless entry remote, press the buttons slowly to be sure not to miss any of the 4 numbers (and enter)...
That should solve your problem.
Good luck.

One remote broke so we bought a universal one to replace it. We programmed it, but we are unable to get both of the remotes to simultaneously work. How can we do this?

Locate the "Smart" button on the logic board. It is located on the end of the GDO with the wiring.
Press it and hold it for 10 seconds. The LED will light, then go out. This cleared the memory.
Now press and release the "Smart" button, press the remote button. the light should flash off and on.
Now follow the procedure again for the second remote. test both remotes. They should now be working. If you have a keyless entry, you will have to perform this procedure one more time for it.

Chamberlain Liftmaster GDO just clicks, no lights no open/close

Pull the logic board and check it for burnt or missing traces on the printed circuit. Thunderstorms love logic boards.

I have an older Craftsman GDO setup. 2-3 button remotes,a manual hardwired push button operator and my wifes' car has been successfully liked to operate the opener as well. Up untill just a couple of days...

I suggest you look for a Chamberlain dealer in the yellow pages and explain what you have. You are looking for a 'universal receiver' that will work with what you have.

On the rear of the motor unit you will find the up and down force adjustments. Increase these just about 1/4 turn and try. Make sure the tracks have not been lubricated at some time with grease. With the cold weather the grease becomes thick. The tracks should never be greased.

Craftsman GDO - Remotes not working

I think this is an easier way to program. Press and hold the button on the remote and then press and immediately release the smart/learn button on the rear of the motor unit. Do this for each remote you have.

Liftmaster gdo won't operate with door or remote

Hi there, when the problem first started was the door being used frequently? If your GDO was used quite a few time's in a short period of time the "overload" may have triped. The makers of all GDO's now adays install an overload witch is an electrical safety device protecting the motor. This prevents over heating in turn burning up the motor. To rectify unplug for 15-20 mins. If you have Model number 1270 turn to pg. 7 in owners manuel. Insure all door locks are free. Insure power to electrical outlets by pluging desk lamp in same out as GDO. what model do you have?
