Noisy Amana Quiet Zone air conditioner

My air conditioner works (well, it blows out cool air...), but it is really loud and the case gets hot. This problem just cropped up a few days ago. It is loud only when the AC is on; the fan works fine.

Fixed it: the trim was loose on the upper left hand side of the unit (near the control panel). I put a clamp on it, and it runs nice and quiet now :-)

I managed to make the noise go away by tightening down a loose piece of trim. It worked fine for about 12 hours, but then all of a sudden it stopped cooling. The compressor won't kick in at all, even if I set the temperature really low. It made a "click, hum" noise like it was trying to start, but it never did. Any ideas?

The compressor sounds like the springs inside are bad. You can live with this are get the compresor eplaced if it is over five years old buy a new unit. Compressor will cost more than a new unit. Russ

On the Amana comfort zone air conditioner, there is a switch that says exhaust closed. Do I want the exhaust open or closed when i have the cool on the air conditioner

Hi, when you are running it in the cooling mode, leave the exhaust open to remove the condenser hot air. If you want to run just the fan to circulate the air you can close it.

Water does not drain from my Amana quiet zone AC. It builds up inside, then causes rusty looking sedement to blow into my house. How/where is the water supposed to drain to the outside? Thank you, Bobbi

If this is a window unit it has to tilt a little to the back(outside) for the water to drain off the bottom back side. I am suspecting the unit is setting tilted toward the room a little. Look at that first. Hope I was of help to you!! Good luck!!

Problems with Amana Quiet Zone 12M12TA, kicks off after short runtime, but other times runs for an hour cooling OK. Hear a clicking when it shuts down? Could not find a fuse ot relay?

Does it run longer when it's cooler outside like at night? If it is, it could be shutting down on high pressure or temperature caused by dirty condenser or you could have an overload in the compressor wire box that is weak or has a loose connection. Check the condensor coil to see if its dirty and see if it has an overload on the compressor.

Not heating

Yes, the reversing valve has a separate coil. some energize on cool mode, some on heat mode. Has the thermostat been replaced? I find this a common mistake.
