Question about E-Machines eMachines Desktop PC

Emachine w5243 still shutting down by itself. Sometimes it will shut down during boot up and other times i can get on it and it will stay on for a couple of hours or so.I have ran a virus scan on it and it had 33 viruses and spyware on it and i got rid of those that did'nt help so i got spybot search and destroy and it did'nt find anything. so i formated and installed a new copy of windows vista and that did'nt help.also i have ran disk checkup and it says its fine. Is there somewhere that i can go on this computer and it tell me what the problem is or the last thing it was doing before it shuts down?

Its not the hard drive because mine was doing the same thing and i took it to the shop and had it checked out.........the motherboard is shot.....it happens alot of times because it gets too hot.......if you will look at the capaciters behind the heat sink fan you will see that they are actually starting to become round on the ends and they should be flat......some shops will tell you that you cannot replace the motherboard unless you want to spend more money that a new tower on it but they are obviously out to make money....i had mine replaced and it was alot cheaper than I was told it would be but of course i took it to a guy that had a shop and didnt want outragious prices for his work.....after buying a motherboard and him doing the labor and re installing all the drivers and my windows vista home premium and also buying another 1Gb of memory to go in it my total cost for it all was 160 bucks..........just to have it checked out at the other place which took 5 days for them to do anything it cost me 67 bucks there.......i would have been better off going to the other guy first

Check your capacitors on your motherboard - see if they are bulging on the top. I have one doing the same thing and that is the problem on it.

I have an emachines W5243, and during the start up for my windows it shuts off, any way I can fix the issue?

its restarting or its shut down?

if restarting press f8, and chose the otion whit not restart if problems, af shut down enter bios and chech the procesor temperature, if is to high, open pc case and clean the cooler and radiator on top of procesor, if is doing that from a long time is posible that the cooling paste from procesor is dry so need to be changed.

if u dont know much about hardware is better to go to a specialist or ask a friend that changed before the cooling paste otherwise u risk to do more damage

best regards

Emachines W5243, two years old, cuts off during wake-up

Possible solution
If this is an i/o problem then i would suggest that you clean the computer out. Go to the computer store and buy yourself one or two cans of compressed air. When you get them you are going to want to shut down your computer and disconnect the power from everything since the next step involves opening the computer case up. Remove the screws on thew back of the unit that hold the cover on, you will be able to see which screws do what. Open the cover up and take a look, the cpu cooler plugged with dust etc. Take the air can and styart blowing the dust and dirt out of the computer, also make sure that you clean out the poiwer supply as well. This will be the place where the plugin connects to the computer. There are fans and other things in the computer as well that you should blow out. If this problem is i/o this may just fix it for you.
Hope this helps

E machine monitor turns itself off and on

The same thing happened to me today. I was just sitting in my room then i hear a click and the cpu is on it stays on for a while then cuts off. It then cuts on and off with few seconds in between. It then stays in that way cutting and off for about a minite or two and then cuts off completely. A few minutes later it starts again. Also in the time it its off it will not turn on by pressing the power button. Sometimes it completly boots up by itself and then shuts itself down. If I shut it down manually while its on it'll turn itself on immeditaly after. What's going on! Will the warranty cover it? Do I need a new computer?

My e machine shuts down unexpectedly.

It could be a virus that your anti viral software isn't picking up. you could try to change your settings so that you boot from a disk and your drives are set as slaves( by changing the jumpers on the back of the drive, all info on a little sticker) and run an updated anti virus program. Also, if it turns out your drives are not going to play and you have a back up of your system, format the drive and start over. hope this helps, if not, sorry ;)

Emachines , shutting off on it's own?

While it is possible the power supply could be going bad, usually it would not work intermittently like this.

Most likely the motherboard is starting to go bad, I would do a quick visual inspection for any buldging or leaking capacitors, if you see any that is definatly what is causing the problem.

If you dont see any damage to the motherboard you can try replacing the power supply, if it still behaves this way then your motherboard is the problem (sometimes there are no visible signs of damage on e-machine motherboards even when they have completly fried)

Hope this helps :)

Emachines wont boot

Bad capacitor(s) on the motherboard can cause this problem, corrupted BIOS maybe... try flashing BIOS.
Probably the CPU if your not getting any error code beeps on startup.. NO Processor for the BIOS instructions thus no Beeps !
