Question about Dometic Rooftop RV Air Conditioner

Duo-Therm AC does not work

When the AC is turned on, I hear a motor running slowly for about 10-20 seconds then it stops completely. The previous owner said she saw smoke coming from the AC at some time.

Fan motor is possiblely bad but start with the capistors in the run box on the roof remove cover you will see where all the wires go onto a metal or plastic box depending on age of unit remove acess cover peek inside and see if you see a exploded capistor ie: i see smoke comming out of my ac capsitor are easy to change but they can kill you they store a lot of energy and are dangerous if you are not careful with them

I have a Dometic Duo-Therm model no. 59516.531 AC. The fan runs slowly and the seems to run but doesn't cool because the fan doesn't run fast enough. Any help on where to start?

try testing the capacitor for the fan if there is one. if there is multiple speeds on the fan motor see if it is getting the correct voltage to the motor if it is getting reduced voltage it will cause it to run slower. U can find the max voltage on the side of the motor and just test the motor by making up a lead if u can.

I have a 2005 Pilgram 27 foot 5th wheel. My Duo Therm AC unit makes a ticking sound from the ac unit itself when it's not running. Shutting off the Duo Therm analog thermostat does not stop the ticking...

It's obviously on the 12voltDC circuit of the AC unit. Sounds like thermostat, or a relay in control box is faulty or bad connection. If you remove cover on ceiling assy., you should be able to hear it in the control box. There should be a model number on the ceiling assy., get back to me with that number and I can better pinpoint which relay. Also, try moving all thermostat buttons and temperature controls back and forth quickly to see if it may clean off a dirty circuit in thermostat as well. Make sure your AC hydro breaker is off when working with ceiling assy. just to be safe.

Duo Therm AC won't cut off with thermostat

Hi, sounds to me like the thermostat is at fault. You have done nothing wrong to it but cover it up. The t-stat is what controls it, turns it on and off. The only other thing that would keep it on all the time would be that the thermostat wiring could be touching together from the stat up to the unit. You might check that before replacing stat. I have seen this many times. You can start the unit and go up top and disconnect the stat wire and it should stop the unit. Then its either the wire or stat.Let me know what you find,
Sincerely,Shastalaker7

Duo-therm by dometic ac rv unit

I suspect that you have a bad selector switch for the on, off, low fan, high fan operation. If the selector switch is put into the off position everything should stop completely.
