You don't need any cables if you have a wireless router connected to a PC or Laptop in your home, just use that. I do, works perfect and no extra unsightly cables or boxes are needed.

Your best option is to buy a new ethernet cable.
They aren't very expensive and you'll know for sure that you have the correct cable.
