Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

I have an AMD Phenom quad-core processor that I just bought. The dvd/cd device that came installed (the pc was used when I got it, not brand new) wouldn't work. The processor is running Vista service pack 2. I took a dvd/cd rw device out of an extra pc I have and installed it. It now burns cd's perfectly, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to burn a dvd. After downloading and trying several different dvd burning packages/programs, I see the common error message after converting a video file to video_ts file to enable burning of the file, the computer gives me an error message that says either, IT CANNOT DETECT A DEVICE OR DRIVER INSTALED or IT TELLS ME TO INSERT A BLANK DVD/RW WHEN ONE ALREADY IS. Heeeeeeeelllllppp! Please!

I only have the Hitachi HDP 725050GLA360ATA device currently installed. The other one I think I trashed. My Vista program has made it extremely confusing, the whole process of burning a darn dvd. All my searches on Demonoid for Vista compatible dvd-burning software has left me with the impression that I will need a multitude of programs to burn just a single dvd. I settled with DVDSanta and am currently trying to burn off of that. I tried AnyDVD (twice), Nero 8 (extremely confusing), Cheetah, and about3 or 4 others. All of them converted the file just fine but then they would either tell me it did not detect my burner device or did not see the empty dvd/rw I had just put in that drive. I cleaned it and still...nothing. When we installed the Hitachi to replace the defective one it came with, I think my husband found the driver on-line but I didn't watch him so I'm not sure if he even did install a driver. (I guess he would have had to or I wouldn't be able to burn audio cd's like I've been doing, rite?). I have a driver heaven program and when I used that to view installed drivers, it only pulled the ones I have pushin my graphics card. I didn't see a driver for my dvd/cd hardware. I'm pretty smart but I will admit that I don't yet know enuf about computer micro-management to even begin to guess what's goin on. help?

So basically this is a physical hardware error, not a software error? The best thing for me to do is just get a new drive?

Could you post the brand and model of the two drives.

The issue is definitely with the drives.
I suggest that you clean the lens on both of the drives, if they are outside of warranty you can open them up a clean the lens with a Qtip - with alcohol (I've used water few times)

Heres a video on how to clean the drive with a Qtip - this video is for another device but it doesn't matter as you would clean the lens in the same way in almost any drive.

.
.

Again please post the brands and models of both drives. Thanks

The cd/dvd drives don't actually need a driver, just plug it in to the machine and it works, the drivers come with the windows.

The "Hitachi HDP 725050GLA360" Comes up As a Hard Drive, not a DVD burner?

If the drive is really giving you that much headache I'd just buy a brand new DVD burner for it
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis...

afterall it only costs some 20$

From what it sounds like, yeah a new drive would solve the issue. Make sure its a DVD burner that supports DVD RW discs.

Also make sure it fits into your computers connectors, either a sata, small almost flat connector or IDE, 40 pin, wide connector.

From todays computers you should find both or sata.
Sata cable look like this - http://www.endpcnoise.com/e/images/sata_...

MAC OSX cannot be installed on a pc that uses a AMD Phenom processor and/or new ATI chipsets - the cracked version you try to use will work (badly - very unstable) only with older models of AMD Athlon and nVidia chipset. The BIOS settings have nothing to do with that.
Get a Linux like http://www.mandriva.com/en/downloads/one/ instead

This processor need better cooling system as it is powerful it need more power so I suggest you to upgrade your Power Supply and buy more efficient processor fan cooler. Also you should check if processor is properly installed on motherboard and there should be some special thermal grease between processor and motherboard (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermal_grease) for better thermal conductivity

MY AMD PHENOM QUAD CORE HEAT SINK FAN IS NOT

First, check for dust. Compressed air works to clean it out.
Second, if the fan is not spinning at all when the computer is turned on, make sure it's plugged in - a wire should connect somewhere
If neither of those work, you may just have to look into a replacement fan, at the least, or a new heatsink/fan assembly. Make sure you get one for AM3 (as Intel sockets - usually designated with a number like 775, 1136, etc. - are secured differently.) They can run from cheap to over $100.

Cd & dvd maker does not work

First check that all the leads connected to the drive are snug. If it can still read CD/DVD then its just that the optical lenses have weakened, so first try cleaning it, it still persists, change the drive and out in anew one...........sodeep

AMD or Intel Processor for desktop gaming and animation purpose

when it comes to new processors i would definatly suggest any intel from the core 2 series. AMD is having problems with overheating and has all but abandoned thier quest for quad core glory.
