I have an Agway chipper shredder with a 5Hp Briggs engine. I need to see how the throttle lever hooks to the carb.

Put a nice new spark plug in the engine and clean the carb with carb cleaner. Spray some cleaner in the carb throat, and put some liquid carb cleaner in the fuel tank.

Get the model and type number off the engine and you can go to a website like partstree.com or others and with the brand and the model and type number you can get diagrams of the engine.

2 turns out should get ya started adjust from there. If adjusting doesn't help you may need a new diaphragm. While you have diaphragm out blow through the 2 holes you'll see under diaphragm with air to hopefully avoid pulling carb off to clear screens on pick up tubes. Also check carb mounting screws through carb into tank. They frequently come loose on chippers and log splitters because of hard mount.

Sounds like your carb is flooding. Inside the carb, there is a simple valve that shuts off the fuel flow when the fuel bowl is full. If this valve fails, or if the float sinks, then too much fuel is forced into the cylinder and will wash past the rings and into the crankcase. This causes the engine to run very rich. You need to remove, clean and overhaul the carb, and change the oil and sparkplug and probably the air filter too. Find the model, type, and code numbers on the engine and go to www.partstree.com , www.ordertree.com , or your local repair shop to get the needed carb overhaul kit. Some B&S engines have an option of carbs, so look for a name on the carb itself...probably Nikki or Walbro. The carb kit is not very difficult to install, but make sure to get everything very clean before reassembly.

sounds like the carb is gummed up. You probably need to do a complete carb cleaning.

if its a briggs and stratton engine your ignition coil might be faulty... you should be able to get a 2nd hand unit at your local mower shop... or.check that your throttle control lever is to run position as it has a stop switch on it earthing out the ignition

unscrew the nut on the bottom of the carburetor and remove the float bowl it must be emptied and cleaned , debree and water gets into the bowl and blocks of fuel flow reinstall the bowl and start, some carbs don't have a float bowl requiring you to remove the gas tank and carb which is a more involved cleaning.

Sounds like the carb is gummed up. Do a complete carb cleaning and see if it helps.

defiantly the carb but its not bad - clean / soak it with some seafoam and blow out all the holes. its just clogged and isnt getting the fuel/air mixture right.
