I was reinstalling my os and the calculator suddenly locked up and quit communicating with the computer. Just says "Waiting" "Please install calculator software now." I have a TI-89 and TI-92. I connected both of them and they work fine. It is the IO of the TI-83 only?

Well you seemed to have deleted your OS. This is easy to fix it you need to go to the TI site and follow their instructions for downloading a new os thats all you can do.

How to make 3 2/5 on device

To deal with a mixed number you must insert a plus sign between the whole number and, fraction. Such as, (3 plus 2/5). Now in your math processes to stay in this form you use the convert to a fraction command.

The top half of my screen split into four "windows." I can't get it to go away, no matter what I do. I can still do basic math equations at the bottom of the screen, however.

It is possoàible that you activated the split screen feature. IF THAT IS THE CASE, you can deactivate it.
  1. Press the MODE key.
  2. Use Down Arrow to move focus to the 8th (the bottom) line.
  3. Use the left or right arrow to highlight FULL, and press ENTER
  4. Press 2nd key then QUIT.
  5. Main screen will be whole again.
If that does not work, reset calculator to the Default configuration.
  • Press 2nd key then + to access MEMory management.
  • Select 7:Reset
  • Under RAM menu, select 2:Defaults
  • Press 2:Reset
  • Calculator returns with Defaults set.
  • Press the CLEAR key to clear the message.

Same as last time

Be reasonable in what you say especially when you seem to infer a blinding truth. If your screen were broken you would not be able to "FIX" it through a connection to another calculator.
I know. Sooner or later you will post another similar question so better learn what the real problem is.
Casino swamps your memory and messes up you calculator. If no more memory is available you cannot get any response from any key.

Play Casino as much as you want. Stop the game before you win that fateful 120000 dollars. Reset the Ram and play again.
Reinstalling the OS by connecting the calculator to another unit effectively reset the RAM and kicks casino out of memory.

To reset the RAM before the calculator is completely frozen, press [2nd][MEM][7:Reset][1:All Ram][2:Reset] [ENTER]
Calculator answers with Ram Cleared. Press the [CLEAR] button to erase that message.

I can not graph simultaneous equations. Mode is set to functions and simutaneous. Megaphone(?) is to the left of y= instead of \ (or /). I can do this on other TI 84s but not my own!!

What you call a megaphone is a bit of graph style that the calculator can use to display graphs. There are 7 styles. To select a style, open the Y= editor. On the same line where you typed in an equation, use the left arrow to move the cursor on the graph style piece. Highlight and press ENTER. Each time you press ENTER, the style changes, so you can cycle through all the available ones. Be careful with the bubble style, it will not leave a graph. It will evaporate.

Whether you draw the graphs simultaneously or sequentially amounts to the same thing at the end. Both graphs will be present on the same sceen (except the bubble).

What you should make sure of is that the equal signs of both functions (Y1=, and Y2=) remain highlighted as cursor moves to another location. Usually, an equal sign becomes highlighted as soon as you start enbtering the relevant function. If you cannot keep both highlighted, I suggest you reset the calculator RAM.

To reset Ram
Press [2nd][MEM][7:Reset][1:All Ram][2:Reset][ENTER] . Press [CLEAR] to clear the "Ram Cleared" message.

If for some reason you do not want to clear the Ram, you must turn statplots of.
To turn StatPlots Off

Press [2nd] [Y=] (STATPLOT). Select [4:PoltsOff][ENTER][ENTER].

That should work.

Hope it helps.

My TI-84 Plus won't graph two functions at once. Only one equal sign highlights. My math teacher doesn't even know what to do and I really need two functions to show on one graph.

Turn the satistical plots OFF
Press [2nd][Y=] (STATPLOT). Select or enter 4: to execute the command [PlotsOff] [ENTER]

Clear the lists (statistical lists)
Press [2nd][0] (Catalog]. Press [PGRM] C. The cursor jumps to the first command in catalog that starts with C (The greek letters in names do not matter). Scroll down a bit to reach the command [ClrAllLists]. Select it and press [ENTER].

Try your graphs again.
If you still have problems, just reset the RAM:
Press [2nd][+] (MEM). Press 7 to select [Reset] then [1:All Ram][2:Reset]. Press [Clear] to erase the Ram Cleard message.

Now you should be able to draw the graphs.

Hope it helps.
Thanks for using FixYa.
