Exiting the Showroom/Demo Mode:
Pressing and holding LIGHT and MAX ICE again for 3 sec OR unplugging and plugging in the
power cord exits the showroom mode and returns to normal operation
Usually changing temps will not cause a fridge to stop cooling. But, most fridges have a showroom mode and I suspect it was accidental entered. Look on user interface for on/off and then press and hold. Good luck!
Assuming that both freezer and refrigerator temperatures have risen and the humming sound that you heard was followed by a sudden click more than likely the start device on the compressor has gone bad. This is a common problem with all Whirlpool refrigerators (KitchenAid is Whirlpools top of the line product and suffers the same problem).
If your control panel displays "OF" instead of the temperature, your refrigerator is in "Cooling Off" mode. In Cooling Off mode, the refrigerator appears to be running normally, but the compressor is off so the unit does not cool. Cooling Off mode is used by retailers to save electricity when the refrigerator is on the showroom floor.
Note: Cooling Off mode is also called Demo mode or Exhibition mode.
Depending on your refrigerator, to remove your refrigerator from Cooling Off mode:
Either press and hold the Energy Saver and Power Freeze buttons for 3 seconds
Or press and hold the Power Freeze and Freezer buttons for 3 seconds.
The temperature display re-appears after the unit is out of Cooling Off mode.
unit may be in showroom mode remove kick panel, retrieve service manual from kick panel put unit into service test mode. let it run tests. it should reset
sounds as if your overload relay, controlling your compressor has burnt out heres a part number that should getyou back in working order( complete with intructions pn# 8201786
Keep an eye on the running time and temparture of the refrigerator. It will need time to return to normal cooling temps since the defrost and hot temps inside will take maybe a few more hours to reach normal. If not, get back with me and I will go through a step by step process on eliminations, If so I will need age of fridge, Make and Models Numbers, Thanks Sea Breeze
