Why is the new Sim Card not being registered / recognised in my Big Button mobile phone?? Please note it is NOT a Smartphone, just for making calls and sending texts

Hello Sir / Madam, When I retired my Big Button mobile phone - making and receiving phone calls and texting only - to upgrade to a more sophisticated smartphone, I removed the "sim free" Pay-As-You-Go card to retain the number and fitted it into the new phone. I repeated this a second time when I updated again and that Sim Card continues to work perfectly. At the time of removal, the Big Button phone was working faultlessly as did / do the new smartphones. I have decided to "bring the mobile phone back to life" as it is much smaller and is perfect for "speed dialling" the phone numbers I call most often. Last weekend I bought the same type of Sim Card as was originally installed - a Pay-As-You-Go card that I top up as and when necessary - but I get a "Failed to Register / Not Recognised" notification on the screen so I cannot make / receive phone calls or send texts. I am at a total loss for this happening as it is a sim free phone that is NOT tied / contracted to any service provider. I replaced and charged the battery first and checked all the settings, preferences and the contact list to make sure they were all there. They were exactly as I left them. I then switched the phone off, removed the battery so I could fit the sim card into it's tray and replaced the battery and cover. When I switched on, the failure notice appeared on the screen so I switched off once more and removed the sim. I pushed it as deep as it would go - still failed so I removed it again and placed it as shallow as I could. The result is the phone is still not working. I tried to contact the catalog company today to ask for advice and help, only to learn it no longer exists so I am at a total loss as to what to do. Because the phone is in perfectly working condition, I am absolutely loathe to get rid of it. Has anyone got the answer to this riddle please?? Thank you for your advice, help and support. Regards and have a nice day. Colin Boyce.

As a suggestion, try your old sim card with your big button phone again to see if that works, and try your new sim card with your newer phone. That might tell you where the problem resides.

    Hello "Vanguardian",

Thank you very much for your suggestion and my apologies for not replying earlier. My eyes do not "work" very well so I had to wait for a friend who knows a lot more than me to make the swaps.

When I fitted the original sim, the phone worked perfectly after being "put into hibernation" for over five years!!!!

When I fitted the new sim I bought for the mobile phone into the smartphone, the same fault occurred so I paid the phone shop a visit. The customer advisor found the sim was faulty so replaced it. He told me it was the first time he had come across this type of fault / sim card failure.

The brand new replaced sim had to be registered to activate it which the customer advisor did and now both the mobile and smartphone are working perfectly.

Thank you very much for taking the time to help me, it is greatly appreciated.

Regards and have a nice day.

    Colin Boyce.

Vodafone co uk simswap

If you have up your SIM in a Vodafone store, it'll already be activated for you. You can just insert it into the mobile phone and start using it.
If you ordered a free SIM online, you'll need to call 17298 free from your Vodafone mobile to activate it.
Note: Before activating (registering) a Vodafone SIM card, make sure that the mobile phone is locked to Vodafone network or free from network restriction. If it is locked to any other network, you need to unlock it in prior. You can unlock a mobile phone safer and easier using unlock code. If your mobile phone is a Blackberry model, You can visit UnBBLock.Com to get the unlock code. If your mobile phone is from any other model, visit Mobile-Unlocker.com to get the unlock code. Good luck.

Just got new cect i68 phone off ebay

You need to call T Mobile because you bought the phone off Ebay. It has to be re registered in there system and set up under their network regardless of any other factor. They have to put their numbers in the Nam1 and Nam2 parts of the phone with the EIM and CDM. That may mean nothing to you but it makes your phone run!! Give T Mobile a call from a LANDLINE phone

Sim card trouble

Hi your only option is to call your phone service provider, I've explained more on this page http://www.bukisa.com/articles/19406_puk-code

the reason why it doesn't unlock is becouse you haven't entered the right puk code and it doesn't unlock it, note that enterting it too many times will make the card useless.

Thanks,
Ekse

SIM Cards and Unlocking your Phone What is a SIM?

Subscriber Identity Module (SIM): A smart card containing the telephone number of the customer, encoded network identification details such as: Call Forwarding, Caller ID, etc., the PIN, and other user data such as the phone book. T-Mobile customers can move their SIM card from any T-Mobile branded phone to any other T-Mobile branded phone without the need to contact Customer Service to activate the new phone. Your rate plan and phone number will follow your SIM to the new phone.

  • Insert SIM: Your SIM is either not inserted in your phone or is inserted improperly. Please remove and re-insert your SIM card. If you continue to receive this error message, your SIM card or phone may be defective. You may take your phone and SIM to a T-Mobile retail store for further assistance and a free SIM card replacement if necessary. Locate a T-Mobile retail store near you.

Please check your phone’s manual for further security details.

T-Mobile SIM PIN numbers are set to default values before purchase. If you change your SIM PIN, it is recommended that you keep record of the new PIN in a safe location. T-Mobile cannot retrieve a lost or forgotten SIM PINs.

SIM Unlock:

T-Mobile branded phones operating on the T-Mobile network may only use T-Mobile SIM cards. To use a T-Mobile branded phone on another wireless carrier's network with a non-T-Mobile SIM card, you must first request a "SIM Unlock" code from T-Mobile. Conversely, if you have a phone from another North American wireless carrier, you may need to request a "SIM Unlock" code from that carrier before being able to use a T-Mobile SIM card on the T-Mobile network.

SIM Unlock Requests:

T-Mobile customers must meet the following eligibility requirements before contacting Customer Service to request your SIM Unlock code.

The following restrictions apply to all account types:
  • T-Mobile can provide SIM Unlock Codes only for handsets sold by T-Mobile USA, with the exception of Danger Sidekick devices. T-Mobile can obtain SIM Unlock Codes for companies acquired by t-Mobile USA (VoiceStream, Aerial, Omnipoint, SOL, Digiph, PCS One, and Powertel).
  • SIM Unlock Codes will only be provided after your account has been active for 90 days. Only one unlock code may be provided per customer every 90 days.
  • No SIM Unlock Codes will be provided within the 14-Day Buyer's Remorse period. Customers who purchase phones in CA California or via Amazon.com are granted a 30-Day Buyer's Remorse Period.
  • SIM Unlock Codes are not always available from the Manufacturer. However, T-Mobile will make a dedicated effort to obtain the SIM Unlock code. Note: Other restrictions may apply depending on account type.
