You can insert the CD and press any key to start your Windows XP installation.

Pressing enter and install the OS. Format the hard drive normally by choosing it after you agree the license agreement.

It will have a choice for NTFS or FAT32 and format it with your choice.

Then just follow the on-screen instructions.

What do you want to do with the drive? Use it for win xp or win 98. If 98 format with boot disk for win 98. If xp boot from cd go to repair consul. (choose repair at first screen) and type format and the drive letter. You can choose fat32 or ntfs. If for win2000 or xp choose NTFS if for 98 or older choose FAT32

Try booting from a win 98 floppy, delete the old partition using fdisk, redo this step and make a partition using fdisk and then format the drive (win 95 disk will work for you also)

Windows XP needs the SATA textmode drivers for it to recognise the SATA hard drive. This can be downloaded from this link:
http://support.gateway.com/us/en/product/default.aspx?tab=1&modelId=2391
You will need the SATA AHCI driver

You must then burn the drivers to a CD or copy to a USB stick. When installing windows XP, you will be prompted "press F6" to load additional drivers, at this point the install will ask you to specify where these drivers can be found, if you direct it to the USB or CD Rom (USB is better to avoid disc swapping), it should find the drivers needed and then recognise your hard drive.

The above is a bit academic though, because this does not appear to support Windows XP according to the downloads options on the link

Installing 1tb External Hardrive from Freeagent onto Macbook Pro

I would be tempted to format the drive using the disk utility whch can be found under applications and then utilities once opened choose your drive in the left hand window and on the right hand side click on erase. If you are using the Seagate drive for the Mac only, format it as a Mac OS Extended (journaled) Choose your volume format and name and then erase. Hope this helps.

I have two operating systems on my hard drive.

Hi,

You can manually disconnect the IDE/SATA cable temporarily from your motherboard (the one with NT PRO & XP HOME), then you can cleanly install a Windows XP on your new Hardisk. And after installing, you can re-connect the other hardrive on your computer and format it under your NEW Windows XP, be sure to set the BIOS BOOTUP sequence that you boot on the right drive.

Hardrive Partition Is corrupt

As i review your explaination, there might be a problem in your hard drive. There so many problems i encountered in the hard drive i encountered like that. However, some problems can be fix using your solution and the other can be fix by replacing the BIOS Battery, and sometime the error in the hardrive is cause by a memory fault. If you are sure that the memory, motherboard, and the bios battery is good and working properly. I recommend you to replace your hard drive that the inconsistency problem will be fined.

Please do testing of your hard drive by connecting it to the other system.

Hard drive not working properly

What is the original OS? If it's XP you can't install 98 over the top of it without formatting it to FAT32 first.

Formatting my WD external hardrive

Hi, In computer terms, formatting a hardrive is the process of preparing/setting the different areas (for read/write) of the harddrive and keeping a list of the addresses. This way the computer would know what data went with what and to where in the HD. Most if not all new HDs are not formatted (prepared) for computer use but are detectable by the PC. Formatting not only makes the HD recognizable, it is now usable. By formatting, the PC also erases any and all references to the existing data on the HD. After being erased and prepared, it also checked for any possible errors. Hope this be of some idea/help. Good luck and kind regards.
