Also here is a little back story that may help. The problem started when somthing started burning in the dryer. Everything was working at this point! heater was running and the motor was running and tumbler was tumbling. I quickly stopped the dryer to air out my house. About 30 min later i tried to restart the dryer and thats is where i am today.

Your motor switch has shorted out, There is a centrifugal switch on the motor that is in the ON position even though the motor is not running. Remove ONE "large" wire from the motor switch. Probably RED and probably one of 2 on the outside positions of the motor switch. If the heater does not work with a wire removed, replace the motor, because the motor start switch is not available as a separate part.

Okay, here it is. This is the circuit you have to check> The operating therm. could be stuck on, The motor has a set of contacts in the hater too. You need to check and make sure they aren't 'welded'. You've changed the timer so I'll assume that's okay. Can you read the schematic? Make sure there aren't any other thermostats that control the element. I'll help you figure it out, let me know

It really seems like the motor centrifugal would be the cause here....

This same problem happens when -- Check for a stuck/welded closed start switch with an ohm meter. Should be open ( no continuity ) when not pushed and closed ( has continuity ) when pushed.
the cost is $10
and here is where you get this
http://www.repairclinic.com/SSPartDetail.aspx?PartID=2825&PPStack=1
click the link directly.also check out for open circuit near the start switch.its actually not able to give command to heater to start or stop.so it just runs when not required.
also check out the thermister.to know how to check thermister click this link
http://www.applianceaid.com/evenheat.html
Please do rate the solution. Thank you for using fixya.keep updated. thanks

Hello, your problem is with the heater, Over 20 years I have seen this problem many times. Unplug dryer and remove the back panel, Then loctate the heater bottom right. You will have to pull off the wires to the high limit and heater. You will also have to remove a screw from the bracket at the top so you will be able to remove the tube that holds the heater. Once you have done this there are going to be 2 screws either side of the heater remove those and now remove the heater. What has basically happend is the coil has broken and one side of the break has touchesd down to the chassis of the heater case (grounded) once you set the timer the rest of the control panel has been bypassed and the heater turns on. Examine the heater coils for damage to check this diagnosis. If you don't see damage it does not mean there is no damage. Test the heater coil for condinuity from terminal 1 to terminal 2 if you have condinuity test terminal 1 against the chassis of the heater for condinuity then test the other terminal against the chassis....one of the will show condinuity and prove this diagnosis...replace the heater. Good Luck!! please feel free to comment again if you have any other questions or concerns. Mike

Ok, this will confirm a major defect in the timer module. the timer is responsible for initiating the element functions and main start up functions as well. it is the principal initiator in this situation. This type of defect can be caused by power surges or a electronic pulse for the outside pole transformers. this can happen at night when you are sleep with no warning. The timer module circuit can become damaged or, welded in this case, creating a closed circuit within the circuit layout. this can also affect the start button and, door switch as well.

I recommend testing the door switch and start button for proper Resistance levels and continuity. if both switches are ok, replace the timer.

It sounds like your heating element is grounded to the canister or the bracket. Unplug this dryer till this is resolved as you have 240 volts feeding to the case if this is the problem. You need to remove the outer panel to get to the heating element to check this. Let me know how this turns out and what you find.

Dryer doesnt go on

I opened up the lower panel of my kenmore 90 and then removed the blower cover. I found two hair pins lodged in the blower and removed them. I tested the dryer with it open and the blower and drum began to turn again. I buttoned everything back up, and it is running fine now.
