Your electric clutch may need adjustment. Take the hood off. Look behind the double pulley that's on the crank shaft. Behind the pulley is an electric clutch. You will need a .010-.015 feeler gage and check between the clutch plates. You will tighten the three screws that mount the clutch to the motor. Try and get as close to .010" as you can. After adjustment start the motor and try and engage the pto. I bet it will work.

Good luck

I would think one of your safety switches aren't making. Could be the seat switch, neutral lever isn't made, blade engagement lever is in the engaged position and this will not allow the motor to be turned over. Try that!

Pto not engaging in john deere lx 167

Check the voltage on the wire(s) connector to the PTO switch. Sometime portion of the switch can go bad. If you have voltage coming in to the switch check the output voltage going to the clutch..

Blade will not engage but all saftey features works

With the pto switch pulled out check with a multi meter that you have a 12 volt supply the the clutch, pull the connector apart at the clutch end to do this, if there is no supply it is a switch or wireing issue, if there is a supply, you shouls have an audible click when the pto switch is pulled out, this is the elecro magnetic clutch engaging, if the click is present, check the belt from the clutch to the deck.

Cub cadet pto won,t stay engaged

Sounds more like a PTO clutch failure, rather than the switch. The clutch is mounted on the engine shaft, between the hydrostatic drive pulley (nearest the chassis) and the mower deck belt pulley (farther from the chassis).
Since it's an expensive part, make sure the problem isn't in the switch or wiring first. You could do that by probing the wires to the PTO clutch with an automotive test light - they are inexpensive and handy. Clip the ground wire of the test light to the chassis, and probe the hot wire to the clutch (it's the one that doesn't connect to ground) when the engine is running and the PTO switch is engaged. Obviously a helper has to be in the seat, and you should be careful doing this. If the light glows brightly, and the clutch doesn't engage, you definitely have a bad clutch. Good luck! Please rate my answer if helpful, thanks.

Did you install the original electric clutch from the old engine?

If so, you may not have the adjustment right. On most electric clutches, there is a specific distance between the drive plate and the driven plate. Check your shop manual (if you have one) for this, as it does vary between manufacturers, and depending on the size of clutch.
