Question about InFocus ScreenPlay 7205 Multimedia Projector

2 Answers

My 7205 has developed a thick black bar (rectangle) horizontally across the middle of the screen. It shows on all inputs and even on the intro Infocus screen. Does anyone know the cause please?

Thanks :) I really appreciate the help :)

Unfortunately, the rectangle is solid, with clearly defined black edges :(

How expensive is the dmd chip? (And does anyone know a repairer in the UK pls?)

    A little more info.

The rectangle is solid 100% black. It comprises about 15-20% of the screen area and is located slightly below half way.

My 7205 has only run 750 hours!!

Secondly, the fault appears to be intermittent. If I restart the 7205 many times, it will start with no bar/rectangle about 10% of the time.

If it starts clear, then if it stays clear for 10 mins, then it will stay clear (I can view a 2+ hour film).

If it starts with the bar, then it stays there if I leave the 7205 running.

If the black bar has fuzzy rainbow edges, the light tunnel has collapsed and needs replacement. if the image has solid edges (to the pixel), there is a problem with the dmd chip. the tunnel is under $15 and can be replaced with some ease, but the dmd is the image chip and is quite pricy.

This is an apparernt recurring problem with many of these projectors. I would suggest calling In-Focus tech support and demand they fix this at no charge - remind them that you have friends with the same problem and it is unnacceptable to have customers go through this after spending thousands on a projector. Last year I had to pay $1500 for In-Focus to replace the chip. Now, a little over a year later it has happened again - with very low projector use! I think a threat of a class-action suit would motivate them.

My Samsung tv has thick horizontal line across top of screen

Check the LVDS cable that connects its T'Con board to display panel for any loose fitting at the both end of its sockets. Re-seat them once and check. This is not a problem with any capacitors. If you wish to get more details, check the site linked here. It has screen-shots to some faulty screens to LCD TVs. Compare them to that of your TVs' and make sure. Pull up previous posts there, either by its left side bar, or view it in Timeslide option.

My Panasonic plasma TV has suddenly developed a one pixel thick horizontal black line across the screen. It is not there when the TV is switched off.

it'll not be there when tv off because dead pixels do only show when back light of screen comes on, anyway if you still have a warranty then ask for them to check it out as it sounds like you need a new screen there mate

My 32 lcd tv a black rectangle apears on aprox,

If it is a large black rectangle that blots out the middle of the screen then you need to check your CC (closed caption) setting. Make sure the closed caption is turned off. I'm not up to date on the newer sets, but a lot of the older ones had more than one CC setting. One setting ran the captioning across the bottom, another put it in a big black box in the center of the screen. Most places didn't support the full text so all that showed was a big black rectangle on the screen. Since I'm not sure exactly what your rectangle looks like, this is my best estimate of your problem. Hope this helps.

Black line running horizontally across TV screen

A line on an LCD, either horizontal or vertical usually means the video driver board is defective or the screen is defective, does it show up as black even on a dark screen? That means a line of LCD "shutter"s is not working and there is a problem that cant be fixed by a reboot or channel change. Bummer.
