Ink Tank Lamp indications

You can check the status of each ink tank according to the way its lamp flashes.

  • On: The printer is ready to print.
  • Slow flashing (at about three second interval): Ink is low. Prepare a new ink tank.
  • Fast flashing (at about one second interval): Ink tank is empty, or the printer is not ready due to an error.
  • Off: An error has occurred and the printer is not ready to print.

I trust this is helpful. Please express appreciation.

Just had a paper jam, printing now coming out with blank stripes vertically on paper about 1 inch apart, help. my name is chris

I think extra ink make stripes. to remove those stripes follow the instruction: the top cover of your printer
2.find out a sponge that are in the left side of the printer bottom.
3.put off it and wash it well by using cold water. And fit it again. Then move the head left from right. Now put a soft tissue upon the printer head clining unit, then move the head again from left to right sothat printer head can reduce from ink. then move the head again and put off the tissue. Then on your printer your printer remain work.
thank you.

Head won't move far enough to the left to get cartridges out

seems a case of carriage jam n needs servicing..
howevr, do it if ur printer is out of warranty and u r a professional..
check for loose/faulty carriage-belt and the drive-assembly..jammed/sticky cleanser-unit (esp the rubber, gears n base)..
also chance of defective/faulty photo/opto-coupler 'sensor(s)'..the diodes and resistors in dis section..
always better to hv professional supervision, contact ur system admin/vendor....

Printing lines not straight and letters shadowed. Help!

Open the cover over the print head and *carefully* inspect the clear thin plastic strip that runs from left to right near the print head. If you see any lubricant (white grease) on this encoder strip, it needs to be cleaned off.
1. With the cover open and the print head in the center, unplug the power cord. This will allow you to gently move the print head left or right.
2. With a cotton swab wetted with rubbing alcohol, *gently* wipe the grease spots from the encoder strip. (Be VERY CAREFUL you don't dislodge the strip.) You may need to move the print head to the left or right to get all areas cleaned.
3. Let the alcohol dry off completely. With the area clear of cleaning tools, debris, and fingers, plug the power back in.
4. Try a test print.

A940 printer stalls and gives a hardware message

This is a usual problem whit this model of printer, i had been thru this three times already.
In my case, the printer stops completely halfway printing and shows "Hardware error 502", i found that is because the optical sensor strip is dirty, first you should try to clean it with out removing it form the printer, to do this you should:

(The optical sensor strip its an nearly transparent plastic strip behind the print head, if you look closely it has very thin lines painted on it, this is used by the printer to measure the movement of the print head)

1- Print something to case the hardware error and shut it down immediately
2- Disconect the printer
3- Lift the scaner part of if, as you do when adding ink.
4- Look where the print head (the ink cartiges) is, this is where the stain is
5- Get the print head out of the way (just slide it left or right)
5- Use a soft cloth with little water to try to clean it, if it doesn't work try isoplopile alcohol because sometimes the stain is ink and is very hard to remove
6- Try print again and repeat as necesary

if you can't clean it this way you must remove the strip and clean it.

(You must have plenty of time and patience to try this, or you can dissasembly the printer entirely if you want to re lubricate or something)

1- Move the printer head all the way left, and with some pointy object pull the metallic wire holding the the strip at the right edge (flashlight very usefull), it's marked with and "D", remember that.

2- Move the printer head to the right and remove the plastic strip (this side is very easy), it's marked with an inverted "F" (it's on the other side) and an arrow indicating the up direction

3- Inspect how dirty is the strip and clean it the way you want (not so aggresively, the strip hasn't the fault)

4- Put again the left side of the strip and make it pass behind the print head

5- Move the print head to the left

6- Put the right side of the strip whatever you can, this is a very tedious process because the reduced space available, remember to keep the left side in place, because it's impossible to put the right side first.

7- Re connect and power on your printer, if it immediately gives hardware error 502, the strip is misplaced, move it a little up, down, backward an forward trying to get in place and try again, or consult the respective solution en this website.

8- If you can turn on the printer it should print now, try it, if it works, Congrats!

Sorry for my bad english

C86 Goes through printing process but nothing prints.

Have you carried out 2 or 3 head cleaning cycles? If not, do it. Is there ink on paper now after this cleaning? If so, but it is streaky, leave the printer for 24 hours and repeat the head cleaning. If not, you must soak the heads for at least 24 hours - use print head cleaning fluid or distilled water NOT TAP WATER. Proceed as follows:

Turn the printer on, and as soon as the print head starts to move, pull the power lead out of the printer, or turn it off at the mains. The print head should now be free to move by hand. Move it out of the way to the left. On the right you should see the print head parking area. There is a rubber cup that is designed to fit under the print head to keep the ink from drying out. Using a syringe or dropper, fill this cup with print head cleaning fluid. Then gently move the print head as far as it will go to the right. The print nozzles are now bathed in print head cleaner. Leave it for at least 24 hours, then repeat the cleaning cycle process.

Turn the printer on and as soon as the print head moves, pull out the power cord, or switch the printer off at the mains. You should now be able to move the print head (gently) by hand over to the left side.

Canon ip 5000

If the print head moves left and right smoothly on the paper as it is printing and all the other colors and black print is ok the surely the Print Head is faulty, get it replaced and your printer will be OK.
