Problems with the headphone jack

Something is wrong with my headphone jack. My ilo only works when I angle the headphones a certain way and even then it doesn't always work. It never used to do that so I am wondering what happened to it and if it can be fixed.

Re: Problems with the headphone jack

You can try 2 things:
first thing:
remove the battery from the unit, if it is removable
grab some contact cleaner/rejuvinator and lightly coat a headphone plug with it, insert it into the headphone jack on the mp3 player and rotate it a few times, repeat 4-5 times.. then let everything dry for 5-10 minutes, pop battery back in and try it. if you don't have contact cleaner/rejuvinator, you can also use 70% or greater rubbing alcohol.

second thing:
if the first didn't work, you can remove the batteries, disassemble the unit, and replace the headphone jack itself. if you do not have experience with de-soldering, soldering, and potentially smd soldering techniques, i don't recommend this option. you may be able to get a local general electronics repair shop (tv/stereo) to replace the part for you for a nominal fee.

hope this helps,

Music only comes from the left headphone

This is a common problem with the headphone jack - if you google "ipod 30Gb headphone jack repair" there are both places that will replace the jack and places that will sell you the new "ribbon" connector and hold switch and jack (it's all one unit). If you're comfortable opening the iPod and have a TINY (#000) jeweler's philips head screwdriver you can replace the unit with no soldering. It helps if you have patience and small fingers and good light; you'll have to fasten the ribbon connector carefully. I paid under $10 for my last part but I've seen the same part for $30+, so caveat emptor. For that price they should put it in for you...

Coby mp4 705 4GB headphone issues

Hey why don't you see if you can pry the two halves apart like an ipod, and then re solder the headphone jack. Or try wedging something around the edge of the jack to hold it where you want it. try this first. here is a link to youtube search.

sounds like the headphone socket is faulty. one of the channels could have a stray wire bridging it across to the earth connection. this would also explain the pause, as it would create a short circuit within the electronics.

sugest you take it back to the shop and complain.

My iriver headphone jack gives distorted or no sound at all sometimes. after jiggling the phones it seems to work but it soon moves again when i move everything else works well

Have you tried using different headphones? If they work, then the headphones you currently have may have some faulty wiring. If different headphones do not work, then there may be something wrong with the headphone port on the iriver.
If there is a problem with the headphones, the best solution would just be to buy new ones. It is much less of a hassle and much less costly. If there is a problem with the iriver's port, it would be best to take it to an electronics store and have them find out exactly what is wrong.

Headphone jack

Your best bet is to find a shop that repairs Ipods. Your headphone jack is breaking away from the printed circuit board and needs resoldered. Shouldnt be too expensive. My shop would charge $25-$40 for a repair like that.
