I think the model tomtom one 310. what happen was that i made a mistake by formating the whole gps by selecting the icon and wipe it off clean.

Now i want to restore it back by copy some maps into it but it seems no seeing home when i plug it to the computer. All i saw was the folder pop up instead of showing me" do you want to connect to computer" it shows folder instead.

I went to home setting to set it to pop up home automatically but the same thing happen still.

Formatted the memory card reloaded maps works for a few times then seems to give incorrect information after post code is entered as if the information has got corrupted.

  • Insert your memory card into your computer's reader if you have one. If not, you can purchase a multi-format USB Memory Card reader from Amazon.com or Buy.com
  • 2 Open up 'My Computer'. You should see it under the list of available drives.
  • 3 Check its contents first to make sure that you have the right drive.
  • 4 In 'My Computer', right-click on the drive and choose 'Format'.
  • 5 Leave all the options as they are and click on 'Start'. This is a non-reversible process so make sure this is what you truly wanted to do in the first place.
  • 6 Once the process is completed, take the memory card out and insert it into your Digital Camera or any other device. Try to browse to it to make sure it works fine now.

Does any map software work on the different gps like magellan tomtom etc.?

I do not think so. Maps are released by a few map makers and licensed for use. A GPS maker reformats the map info into a proprietary format that is recognizable only by its GPS units. And No you cannot use maps from one GPS maker on a model from another GPS maker. However nothing prevents you from trying it, but before you do so, make sure that you back up all the content of the GPS unit.

You have to format the memory card, to get rid of the password etc, you will lose all the content, you already lost all the content when you forgot the password.

try making a back up using tomtom home, also create a directory on your computer and save the contents of your tomtom there, i had this problem which turned out to be corrupt firmware/ application, which after i formated and reloaded the f/w/app from tomtom.com it worked fine....be sure to back up before you format,
then you can relaod your maps

    Hi there,
Try hard reset (hit the reset button on the bottom with the power on) and the GPS was restored when powering up. No settings or favorites were lost.
