Inside the compressor , the motor is held by 3 or 4 springs . When 1 of those springs break (either from rust or time) the internal motor will bang the inside of the compressor . This does not mean the compressor will quit , only noisey when cycling off . Only way to stop the noise is to replace the compressor OR try shimming up one of the compressor mounting legs (will take trial and error to determine which leg will stop the banging ) . Always reinstall the rear cover even when checking .

Top refrigerator rattling inside the refrigerator when first starts to run then stops rattling

There is something loose, when first starting the compressor because of its initial load vibrates shakes etc then settles down as the system stabilizes. Move things around inside and see if this helps. If not remove everything and try again, if the rattle is still there it is part of the cabinet, if not it was something inside.

I opened the refrigerator and its no longer cold in there, both sides.

The first thing is to determine if the compressor is running...if its off and not running..remove rear cover...if you hear a clicking noise once every five minutes or so...The relay may be bad...this is the part that fits on compressor terminals. remove it and shake it..if it rattles...its bad, it could even be bad and not rattle, but they usually burn out and rattle...okay, now if compressor is cold and nothing comes could be off thru the defrost control or thermostat. I'm betting , its a burned out relay

Not cooling at all, fans all run, compressor is warm and you can hear the thermal click on it every once in a while. Possibly the starter capacitor?

remove the relay and shake it..if it rattles, its bad...replace it and all is well.....however, if the compressor is will cycle on thermal as well.

Sounds like a bad overload/relay . On the compressor , with the refrig unpluged , pry off the box on the side of the compressor with 2 or 3 wires going to it . If you have a meter that beeps on the continuity setting , touch the 3 compressor pins 2 at a time . If no beep , compressor is bad . If a beep from either of the 3 pins to the copper lines connected to the compressor , then the compressor is shorted . If all 3 pins beep , replace the overload/relay pt # 12002784 .
NOTE : if you do not have access to a meter , shake the relay ( black piece ) and listen for rattle noise . If rattles , its bad .

more than likely you probably have a bad compressor foot mount . It is a rubber cushion between the compressor and the refrigerator base frame. they wear out, allowing the compressor foot to contact the mounting base which would be metal to metal contract.

Hello, this problem is going to be with the relay on the compressor or the compressor. Pull the refrigerator out and remove the bottom panel off the lower rear of the appliance. Behind the panel you will see the compressor. On the side of the compressor you will see the relay cover. remove the cover then pull the wire harness off. next give the relay a tug and it should pull off. Once you have the relay in your hand give it a shake. if the relay rattles then your problem is the relay. If the relay does not rattle then the problem is with the compressor. You should call a service guy. If you have any additional questions please feel free to comment. Mike

Refrigerator not cold. The motor is blowing but

unplug the refrigerator. get to the compressor remove the cover on the compressor, remove the brown or white relay. the compressor also has an overload, but that maybe on the top or connected to the relay. remove the wires, remember where they go, shake the relay, if it rattles it's bad. you will need to get a solid state relay to replace the bad one..Good luck

Comppresor stoped working

Go to the back of the machine and take the lower rear plate off. Taking this plate off will expose the compressor. Check to see the compressor is humming or is hot. If niether take off the relay (located on the side of the compressor) Shake it and if a loud rattling noise is heard replace it. If no rattling noise or the compressor is hot or humming then the compressor is bad.

Freezer not freezing, everything is thawing.. only 3 yrs old, refrig part only 47 degrees

sounds like your compressor is not starting up. unplug your refrig then remove the start relay from the side of the compressor. shake the relay if you hear alot of rattling around in the relay then most likely that is all thats wrong. if it doesnt rattle alot then possibly the compressor is locked up and is bad.

when you shake the relay if its broken internally usually little peices of ceramic will fall out of it. so shake it over a peice of paper to see if that happens/..
