2000 toyota avalon steering wheel lock won't disengage

On a couple of occasions after parking my Toyota Avalon the steering wheel lock won't disengage after I restart the car. How do I fix it? Can I easily just disconnect the system?

I have the same issue I'm trying to remove the whole barrel housing that holds the ignition cylinder and barrel tumbler but the screws seem to be conical where I can't remove them. Took the steering wheel column down to look on the other side but no nuts there either. Were you able to fix yours?

Turning the key mechanically unlocks this. I never heard of this and would have to fix it at all cost. If this were to happen while driving....you see what I mean? Woh

Broken steering pin lock

As the pin is in the bracket on the end of the switch you may be able to manipulate it if you can get the key and barrel out of the bracket around the steering column. Otherwise you will have to have the bracket removed from the column and fit a new one .
