Question about Seagate Travan TapeStor 20 Travan Tape Drive

1 Answer

I have an old STT6201U tape drive from Seagate that I'm trying to install on Windows XP. Windows asks for a driver for a "Freecom USB-Atapi Controller" but I cant find one anywhere. Does anybody know where I might get this driver? Thank you, Richard - rlsuth@comcast.net

Thanks CajunKitty. Unfortunately, when I tried to open the DriverDetective installation, I just kept getting an error that it could not be opened, so I'm no nearer getting the driver I need.

Hi Richard, I found a free download site for the driver that your Win XP is searching for. I am unsure of the format and installation process. But I do hope that this link will help you.

Good Luck!

I pulled the seagate 2.5"

Hello,

When you use external adapters to plug drives into USB ports the drive needs to be set for mast not slave. The internal drive is one one channel and external drive is on a different channel so neither drive is a slave, both are masters with not slave drive present. Try removing the jumper you installed and try the drive, it should be seen because all windows XP or later do not need drivers for USB drives.

I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.

Hello, I'm trying to track down a USB driver for a Freecom FHD-1 external drive to run under Windows 98se (for the moment). Have checked freecom.com for drivers but am a bit dizzy after...

Some info on 98se and USB issues. You should not need a usb driver if the usb port in your computer is already functioning properly. The only inconvenience you will have is your drive will work at the slower speed provided by the usb 1.1 standard.

The link below describes step by step installation of your drive in 98se

The driver for this Archive > Seagate > Certance > and finally Quantum drive was included in Windows. Try Window Device Manager > select the drive > properties > update driver > Can Windows Update select No not at this time > Install from a list... > Don't Search...> Tape Drive > try either the Standard tape drives DAT driver or a Compaq DAT. If none of those work you are probably out of luck.

I need to intall a freecom usb external hard disk to an old computer uses windows 98 an i havent a drive Any help please? How can download s driver for this disk?

Unfortunately, the company only supported: OS: Windows 2000 / XP / Vista / Mac OS X v10.3 or higher and Time Machine (OS X v 10.5 Leopard) compatible, for their USB hard drives.

You would need someone to write a driver for you or to connect to a computer with a supported OS.

I wish that I could be of more help.

This is a Seagate 200GB SATA-interface disk-drive.
Open "My Computer", and point at the icon for 'C:' drive -- is it a 200GB disk-drive?

Double-click that "yellow exclamation" item. Click "install new driver" or "update driver".
If Windows asks permission to access the Internet to search for a new driver, allow it.

Note that the USB ports on some laptops are "weaker" (same voltage but lesser amperage) than USB ports on some desktops. So, your FreeAgent might not be getting enough power to function correctly. There exist 'Y' USB cables -- connect the 'Y' to 2 USB ports on your computer, to draw twice as much power.

I am trying to use a OneTouch 4 Mini to retrieve files from an old PC with Windows98 OS. The USB does not recognize the device.

windows 98 doesn't have support for usb drives, you need to install a driver for the onetouch.

looking at the support pages the requirements state windows xp or newer.

you can try contacting the support and ask for a driver for windows 98
https://seagate.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/seagate.cfg/php/enduser/stx_ask.php

I feel its unlikely they have made a driver for it, but you got noting to lose by asking.

Freecom 250 Gb Hard Drive

Hi des,
you need to install windows XP, on a different hard-drive.
even if it,s only 10 gig plus.
You can then access the drive.
Your problem is here, is that you,ve upgraded from XP to Vista, theres a possibility, that you may have lost or even formatted your freecom hard-drive.
No-Support-Device detected, is saying that your USB devices are not functioning correctly.
Check in the bios that the USB devices are enabled, to operate your hard-drive. ( this is assuming it,s a USB drive )

Hope this helps you out.
