Re: computer problem

If the code-10 is in device manager it usually means 1 of 2 things:
1) the drivers installed are the wrong ones
2) the cd/dvd drive needs replacing

if the drive is removable, remove it and reinsert it to see if it is just a bad connection. if it was working before and is no longer working, the drive may need replacing. if it was working before and died after a system or driver update, use "roll back driver" in the device manager properties box for the dvd drive.

hope this helps,

My CD rom is not working

No matter what type of laptop you own or how you use it, the CD-ROM or DVD drive is an important part of the unit. With the CD or DVD drive in place, you can play your favorite music or watch your favorite movies, so when that CD or DVD player stops working it is important to get it back in service as soon as possible.

1.Locate the bypass hole on the CD-ROM drive. There is a very small hole, generally located underneath the eject button, on every CD-ROM drive. Unbend a paper clip and insert it into the hole until the CD tray pops out.
2.Remove any CD that is in the tray and replace it with a CD laser lens cleaner. These laser lens cleaners are available at computer shops and electronics retailers.
3.Run the laser lens cleaning program, then try to play a CD again. If that CD fails to play, replace it with another CD and try again.
4.Shut the computer down and remove the AC power cord if cleaning the laser lens does not resolve the issue. Turn the laptop upside down and slide the battery release lever to the unlocked position.
5.Remove the battery and set it aside. Then locate the screws that hold the CD-ROM drive in place and remove those screws. Slide the CD-ROM drive out of the bay, then slide it back into the bay until it snaps securely into place. Replace the screws that hold the drive in place, turn the laptop back on and try to read the CD again.
6.Log on to your computer and right click on the "My Computer" icon. Select "Properties" from the menu and click on the "Hardware" tab. Click the "Device Manager" button and expand the CD-ROM section. Right click on the CD-ROM and choose "Update Driver" from the menu to download and install the latest device driver from the CD-ROM manufacturer.

I hope you find it very helpful. Thank you for using fixya

Autoplay might be turned off.
open up "My Computer" or "Computer" and double click the drive and see if it reads that way.
If not, clean the lens on the drive.
If that doesn't work, you will likely need to replace the DVD drive or take the computer in for service.

your drivers may have been corrupted or you might have a virus run your antivrus program
you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd rom then plug them back in this will activate found new hardware wizard
hope this helps or
you might have to uninstall then reinstall your cd rom or uninstall the driver then reinstall for this device
control panel admistrive tools, computer management, device manager scroll down cd dvd rom drives right click you can you can update driver, roll back driver,or select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall
only do the registry check if you cant see the drive/s in windows explorer/my computer
or it might be a registry problem
Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer

Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

hope this helps

You need to delete the upper and lower filters in the registry for the cd drive..

Here is a link to a page that explains how to do so.

The dvd player will no longer play any disc except cheap free bees from the uk, it will no play uk or australian discs and the error msg reads please check region code.... have tried the 8,4,2,6,9 hack to...

If your drive reads cd's, but not dvd's That indicates that the hardware works fine. You will need to edit the registry in order to fix this problem.

1) click the start menu
2) click on "run"
3) type "regedit" and click ok
4) go to string key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
5) delete "upper filters" and "lower filters in the right side window or whichever either/or is in there, close out.
6) right click my computer in the start menu.
7) click properties
8) go to the hardware tab
9) click device manager
10) expand the dvd/cdrom drives
11) right click the dvd rom and click uninstall
12) restart computer

after restarting, windows should automatically install a clean ROM drive and it should read DVDs just fine if you have the correct DVD decoders.
Hope this helps,

Dvd does not work. Light blinks but not seeing it . is there a driver i need or what do i do to fix this

You must determine if the problem is the media you are using (CD, DVD) or the drive itself. (CD/DVD Rom)
First see if the driver is installed for the CD/DVD ROM by Right clicking My Computer and choosing Properties, Hardware, Device Manager. Clikc the plus sign next to DVD/CD Rom Drives to see if there is a yellow exclamation point, or question mark. This means you need to install the correct driver. If there are no yellow exclamation marks or question marks your driver is installed properly.
Next try playing difffernt CD's to see if any of them work. Confirm they are good CD's by playing them on another device, then try them on your Compaq. If the Cd's play on another device you may possibly be experiencing read errors on the CD/DVD Rom drive. Try using a CD Laser Cleaner that will clean the laser head of the CD /DVD Rom. it looks like a CD with small brushes on the music side. This may solve a read error problem. if that does not solve your problem you may need to replace the CD/DVD Rom drive.

Will CD-RW drive play video or do I need CD-Rom? (Gulp) Cost ?

NO sorry to tell you you need at least a dvd drive to play dvd's DVD - R/RW to burn onto a DVD disc but you are lucky, external DVD drives are relatively cheap now days, just look around online or at walmart my estimate is that you wont pay more than 200 for a dvd-rw drive (external) as far as the value of the computer you are getting i would say currently $200 to a max of $400 value if you were going to sell it and thats asking high. if you didnt pay more tha that then you are ok IF you did i would be asking for your money back as you can go to walmart and get 3 times the computer for 300 bucks. if you need to know more just shoot me an e-mail at just let me know in the subject that your real.
