Mirror movement When you look through the screen on the back of the camera you see a "mirror" (?) move up & down. Is it fixable? Thank you! I appreciate any help that any one can give me!

OK, first off charge your battery and try again. Probably won't do anything but low power does cause problems. Second, check to make sure the mirror isn't stuck on its stop. If it doesn't move up and down freely, there may be a problem with the mirror. Finally, usual cause is motor failure in the aperture unit or shutter failure. If you can lift the mirror, lift it gently and make sure the shutter blades are laying flat. Unfortunately Nikon stopped selling parts over a year ago so you would have to send it to Nikon.

Adjust mirrors

The mirror adjustment is unlikely to be the problem, but here's how it's done: If you lift the mirror with your finger, you will see the mirror height adjustment arm underneath it on the rewind side. It has a cross-slot screw which can be turned (with a knife tip) to move the mirror rest up or down. It will be locked with a bit of glue which you can dissolve with acetone on a cotton swab. For the condition you describe you would need to move the rest up just a hair, shortening the lens-to-finder path. Re-lock the screw with a small bit of nail polish when you have it where you want it.

But before you do that, verify that the problem is not on the focus screen side. Lift out the screen and check for gunk on the frame and the shelf in the camera where it rests. Also, make sure the screws in that shelf are not loose. Even a small amount of extra height would cause the problem you describe.

Play in the mirror of SLR after cklicking the shot

Not sure what is going on with that but there is a recall on these for a power issue. See if you can send it in for that and they look the whole thing over for free.

Bottom 3/4 of photos are black

Check out this website

I had the same problem. You can check to make for sure by removing your lens, and carefully lifting your mirror. Does the sub mirror underneath flatten against the other one when you lift it? That's probably what is in the way creating your 3/4 "black" picture. I just repaired mine as in this website, and the mirror moves great now! Of course, I'm used to taking apart laptops and such. If you have a warranty yet, contact Canon. It is a defective issue on there part.
