Question about Texas Instruments TI-30XA Calculator

1 Answer

The screen of my TI-30XA calculator recently went blank. The screen faded over a period of two days, with no signs of fading before this (I have had it for 5 years). I tried "recharging" it in the sun, but it did not light up again. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Can not reset calculator. Keep getting + sign when press enter

If the TI-84 does not function even though you are sure that the
batteries are fresh, you can try manually resetting it by following steps:

1. Remove all of the AAA batteries from the graphing handheld

2. Press and hold the ON key for ten seconds

3. Replace the batteries

4. Turn on the unit

When you reset your graphing handheld, the contrast sometimes
changes. If the screen is faded or blank, adjust the contrast by
pressing 2nd and releasing up-arrow or down-arrow keys.

Simplifying fractions on the TI-30XA

Two ways:

1) hit the equal sign

2) hit 2nd and [d/c] (you can do this multiple times to see it as the most reduced improper fraction or as a mixed fraction)

TI-85 Calculator's LCD Display if faded

I did a little research on the Texas Instruments Website  and here is the answer.
Adjust the contrast by pressing and releasing the [2nd] key followed by pressing and releasing the up arrow; repeat as necessary. To adjust or lighten the display, use the down arrow.

Batteries

Unscrew the six small screws on the back with a small phillips cross head screwdriver (an eye glass screwdriver works fine), then carefully prise off the back using a flat blade in the two slots at the top of the calculator.

Keep it upside down or the display will fall out!

You'll see the two 1.5 volt alkaline batteries there, GPA-76 type (flat, round) in mine. Ease them out carefully and replace them, positive side up.

Alternative battery codes (manufacturer dependent) L1154, AG13, GA13, AG76, GP76A, 675HR, LR1154, LR44 per battery web sites, maybe others.

Make sure batteries are seated and display is in its correct position, replace back cover and six screws.

Caveat 1 : You can buy the TI-30XA for about $10-$13 at Staples/Amazon, two batteries will set you back around $5-$7!! But they last a couple years even with heavy use. TI-36X and TI-30X IIS are better calculators and have solar cells as well.....but about twice the price at $17-$25.

Caveat 2: I had one of these where the display faded, replaced batteries, did nothing because circuit board or display was bad. So you could replace batteries and waste the time/money.

Most likely your battery is dying.

You can replace by removing 6 screws at back of calculator, but cost of battery is around 40% of buying new TI-30XA from Amazon, Staples or elsewhere.

I've used TI-30XA's for years, batteries usually last 2-3 years, then I buy new calculator. The one time I tried to replace battery, fading display still problem, so circuit board had gone bad.

So you could try battery replace and may be OK, but also may be waste of time and $$

Either battery is dying, or circuit board has gone, or connector cable loose.

You can replace battery by removing 6 screws at back of calculator, but cost of battery is around 40% of buying new TI-30XA for $10 from Amazon, Staples or elsewhere.
