What causes dryer to stop and say E1? - Whirlpool GEW9200L Electric Dryer

This is model GEW9200LQ0. It looks like there are two thermistors: One with two blue wires ohms closed (with one wire removed). The other with a black wire and a red wire ohms open (with one wire removed). So I guess they are both supposed to ohm normally closed?

Glad to know just what E1 refers to.
    Thanks for the help.

Hi there,

E1 fault code means that there is an open thermistor.

The thermistor is faulty and must be replaced.

The thermistor is located on top of the blower housing. To reach it you have to remove the pane located at the front bottom side of the appliace, below the door side. Panel is held by two screws. Pictures below shows how it will look behind the panel:

Here the part for the model in title: THERMISTOR (Thermostat, Internal-Bias)

It is part 42 on diagram below:

Yep, the thermistor that does not show continuity and stays open is faulty. That must be replaced. Dryer thermistor will open only at very high temps.

Hello,

The E1 error code means that the electronic thermostat is the problem. With what your describing as far as it being very hot and the E1 code,i would suspect one of 2 things;

1) the thermister is bad and needs to be replaced

2) thier is a blocked/restricted vent and or excessive lint built up in the blower housing causing the heat to be retained in the dryer instead of being vented out and across the thermister where its getting a false reading and throwing up the E1 error code

KENMORE, Model # 11082834100 stops while drying and gives us an erorr code E1

E1 can indicate a problem in the dryer's thermistor or its wiring circuit. You can see what a popular thermister looks like at this link:

LINK > Whirlpool/Kenmore Dryer Thermister

It should usually measure in the area of 1.5K - 10K ohms but they can be intermittent and test Ok when out of the circuit and only fail during operation making them difficult to pinpoint as the cause of problems. If all the rest checks out, sometimes the thermister just has to be replaced to see if it solves the problem or not if you have any questions message me back Thanks again Rick

Code E1

E1 or E2 Thermistor Failure

The dryer will not operate if the exhaust temperature drops below 18 degrees F. or exceeds 250 degrees F.

When the thermistor circuit is open (>50K ohms), the error code E1 flashes in the display.

When the thermistor circuit is shorted (<500 ohms), the error code E2 flashes in the display.

Normal thermistor resistance values:
60 degrees F. - 15.3K ohms.
70 degrees F. - 11.9K ohms.
80 degrees F. - 9.2K ohms.

Take the top off the dryer and inside you'll find the "tech sheet." It has instructions for removing the front panel and locating the thermistor.

HE3 dryer stops drying with code E1

Hi, how are ya?

The E1 is a thermistor problem. It's a little black fuse that's next to the thermal fuse on the duct housing.

It's pretty easy to fix. You need to take the bottom pannel off and then the black blower housing.

Good luck :)

This usually works to unlock the E1 code

To unlock the Control Locked feature:
Press and hold the End Of Cycle Signal buttonfor 3 seconds to turn this feature off.
NOTE: When the dryer is running and Control
Locked light is on, the dryer can be stopped by
pressing the Pause/Cancel button, but cannot
be restarted until the control is unlocked.
If this worked for you don't forget to give me a ranking. Thank you!

ERROR CODE E1 MODLE #GGW9200LW O

E1 error code is for the thermistor, try cleaning off the bottom of the thermistor, (sometimes tacky lint will coat them), if that doesn't help, just replace the thermistor.

Dryer turns off and shoes e1 code

E1- Thermistor open.
It monitors the exhaust temperature, and cycles the heater relay on and off to maintain the desired temperature.
It could be the sensor, or electronics.
