Kenmore not cooling, compressor cycles on and off

I tried to search the topics but couldn't find this exact problem.

Power went out the other day for 5 minutes. When it came back on it seems the fridge isn't working.

Embraco Compressor EGZ 90hlp on a Kenmore 106.56566400 Cold Spot ?

I think we bought it in 2005 or 2006.

Any way, the fan is running and there is power up to the compressor. The relay clicks, compressor cycles on for about 5 seconds, relay clicks and cycles off for about 4 minutes. This keeps repeating but the cond. fan never stops. I'm trying to get some ideas since I really don't know this system.

Any help would be appreciated.

Replaced the relay. There was another part attached I'm thinking is a capacitor. Plugged it in and all is working fine. Thanks for your help. Nice to give $22 to a local supply store and not $200 to Sears repair. I hate doing business with them.

    Thanks again :)

    Hi;

thanks for the suggestion. same problem here. one more question, does the Run Capacitor has polarity?

  • yali900 Jul 31, 2008

the fan is running and there is power up to the compressor. The relay clicks, compressor cycles on for about 5 seconds, relay clicks and cycles off for about 4 minutes. This keeps repeating but the cond. fan never stops. My compressor is Embraco EGZ 90 HLP. I replaced all the assembly of the starting device on the compressor, inclusing capacitor, and starting device. it does the same thing. I measured the resistance between the 3 poles and they are all ok, and each pole to ground, and insulated well.

it seems the compressor is ok, just having problem starting. Please help. thanks a lot in advance

It sounds like the compressor relay mounted to the side of the compressor is out. Very common problem on these units. The replacement relay is supposed to be stronger and less likely to give a problem. Remove the relay and shake it. If you hear it rattling inside it is definately burned out.
Do not replace it with a 3 in 1 or kickstart relay. It will work fine for a few months and burn the compressor out. Get the correct replacement part.

Kenmore 20 Porcelain Plus Refrigerator. Model number 8740911 makes banging noise when the cooling cycle ends. Quite loud. Refrigerator works fine. Any ideas?

Make sure the fridge is level back to front and left to right. Banging is normally the compressor shuddering on its rubber mounts, or the compressor is failing. Watch the unit from the rear as it shuts off. You may need to remove a cover held by a couple of screws.

Kenmore freezer overload relay went out so i fixed it for about two days . why would it be blowing the overload relay, bad compressor maybe ??

is the relay side sensitive? installed upright? what's starting amps on compressor? verify all connections tight, obviously replace start kit first but possibly compressor going bad.

Kenmore Elite Refrigerator. Model #795.72093.310. It will not cool with no alarm.

how do the lines feel to the compressor. if they are room temp, you may have a leaking sealed system, or refrigerant leak

My Daewoo refrigirator's freezer is cooling but not the lower com

sounds like you need to replace the ptc overload on the compressor as this component supplies start and run power to the compressor and its getting weak and short cycling the compressor, they just unplug and plug into the side of the compressor and when you remove it shake it by hand and if you hear it rattle thats a good sign its bad

I need a start relay for a Kenmore (Danby)

Hi, I'd personally just go and put in a aftermarket start relay and overload. Look up part # IC41 or IC81, or even a rco/hs810. it's been a while since I've used them, but they work. Unless the unit is under warranty there's no consiquence. If you have warranty, these parts will void said coverage. Good luck, hope that helps

Refrigerator not cooling

the most likely problem will be the start relay for the compressor. the clicking noise is the compressor trying to start and then the relay cycles back off. the part number is 8201786 and can be purchased from any loal appliance parts house thru sears.com or any othe online parts source. the kit comes with good instructions so you should be able to repair yourself.
it would be a good idea to unplug the refrig until you get it repaired to prevent possible compressor damage. thanks peyton..

It sounds like you have a stuck compressor or bad start capacitor.

Clicking noise from compressor and fan runs 24/7

check the grounds to the ref. also check power to the ref. but it sounds like you have a floating ground the only thing else to mke comp.cycle is the relay which is on the comp. itself
