Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console
I had the same problem on an older 360 I once had. I think that it is a problem with the Benq VAD6038 drive. The only known way to fix it is either replacing your 360 or replacing the drive. You can find new drives here. This drive works very well and reads disks almost instantly. I hope this helps you! Good luck!

After taking the entire drive apart i found that the laser / moter assembly was offset. this ment that the disk was tilted 1degree towards the laser and intern hittng the laser assembly that so many peopl think is "laser burn" which actualy is the disk physically hitting the laser. how u fix this is as easy as adjusting two screws were the moter and the laser/ tray assembly meat. now thses arnt nomal phillips, flat head or torx scews. i found that stickin a drill bit in the screw head annd turnin it with some pliers did the trick. this fixes the open tray error for good unless the disk is causing it. IF anyone gets open tray ocasionally this should stop it for good. also try cleaning inside of drive make sure connection to drive is good. try turning the system on then emmidiatly opening and closing the tray a couple time.

Tips for a great answer:

to do when your Xbox Has problems with reading disks and you have
tried cleaning the disk.
does not mean your Disk Drive needs replacing more often than not it
just needs the laser to be readjusted.
can send this off to Microsoft if your still in warranty because it
is included in there free fixes so they will do the collecting for
you, fix it and return the Xbox to you, all for free, but it will
take 4-6 weeks.
you are out of warranty its the same process as above but its $130 in
a new Disk drive would cost around $75 for a compatible one and you
may need some one to fit it at a cost as well.
I recommend is a Xbox
Repair Guide that will show you the simple steps yourself, you
will be up and running again in less than an hour and the cost is far
less than option 2 & 3
