Unable to get Xante printer to work

I'm running Mac OS 10.4. Xante AW1200 atached to computer via Ethernet. I've run the latest Xante driver installer. When I try to add a printer via the Printer Setup Utility, the Xante doesn't show up. If I select IP PRINTER in the Printer browser box, there is a choise of 3 "protocols": LPD, IPP and Socket. If I type in an IP address for the Xante, I can select the Xante printer model and ADD it to my printer list, but when I attempt to print, I am unable to connect to the prinetr.
Any advice (please) would be appreciated. I've verified permissions, reset the printer utility...

I've had exactly the same problem for some time now. Every once in a while I've gotten the AW 1200 to work again, and I imagine I've found a solution, but then it stops working again. Very wierd. I have one computer running Mac OS 10.4 and one with 10.5. Neither can see the printer.

Same problem here. I have 2 machines with OX 10.4 and 10.5. I use Ethernet. My 10.4 used to work for a while and stopped working. I
reinstalled the driver( one came with the printer) and new driver, but
they don't show up in the print setup utility. I used USB cable, and it showed up in the print set up utility, but when I tried to print, it did not work. I called Xante to get tech support, and they were going to charge me $75 for it, so I didn't. I really like to throw this printer out the window. If anyone has a solution, I would love to know... maybe by then, this printer may be in pieces....

The other option is to use the web page of the xante to print, I do this using mac os 10.4, since it stopped working in the printer menu. Xante support is poor at the very least and sucks at its best.

Have you tried pinging your print server from your Mac? If you can find the IP address of the printer ping successfully, you know that your computer can access the printer.
Then, under System Preferences, choose Print & Fax.
Select the Xante printer name, choose "Options and Supplies"
Under "Options and Supplies" make sure that your printer settings match the ping settings (IP address).

When I send a job to the printer via Ethernet, nothing happens on the printer. I only get a solid red light. Why?
This is an indication of a media size mismatch. Make sure that the correct media size is set on the tray to which you are printing, and try the job again.

Good luck!

Samsung ML-2525W printer & Mac OS X 10.6

I think there are 6 ways (at least?) to connect this printer:
(1) Direct to Mac (or PC) via USB Cable (2) Direct to Mac (or PC) via Ethernet Crossover Cable (3) Ethernet to router/switch, with Mac/PC also via Ethernet to router/switch (4) Ethernet to router/switch, with Mac/PC via WiFi (802.11 wireless) (5) WiFi to router, with Mac/PC via Ethernet to router/switch (6) WiFi to router, with Mac/PC also via WiFi
As (1) should be simplest, tried this first. First document would print instantly and completely, next doc would hang in queue with unexpected msg, "Printer is offline." Only way to print 2nd doc was to power cycle (off-on) the printer. This problem occurred whether 2nd doc was sent to printer before or after 1st doc had printed. Tried 2nd USB cable, tried new driver, tried reinstalling printer; same problem. Spoke to both Samsung and Apple support, including both on a conference call; never got this to work and never clarified if problem was in printer hardware/software, driver, or something else.
Nothwithstanding USB problem, did succeed in modes (4) and (6), although custom wireless config needed since my network does not broadcast SSID and requires an encryption password. Also required different driver for wireless config (as opposed to USB).

Xante accel-a-writer 4g for mac OSX 10.6

I haven't checked in a while. Xante told me when I called them that they were not planning to make updates past the current version of the 4G OS X drivers, as the machine was no longer in production. They said the driver should perform adequately on current versions of OS X even though it was not initially designed for them (as they did not exist when the driver was created).
I found this to be untrue in my case. The drivers did not allow me to print consistently from 10.5.8 on an Intel Mac Pro.
My solution was to activate the print server on an Xserve running the Tiger server version of OS X, install the Xante driver there (since it was designed to run on that version of the OS), and now my newer macs can use the printer without issue.

Red and Green lights both stay on AW1200 and now

The temperature in my office was 38 degrees yesterday. After I turned the heat up the printer "dethawed" and started working normally. I believe the problem was environmentally induced and therefore solved with the more moderate temperature. Thank you for your reply.

I purchased a new macbook pro with 10.5.7 - Xante AW1200

No on the Xante Support page the Driver is for 8.x-10.4, not for 10.5.
So the latast available is 10.4. You can see it here
