SOURCE: Needle hitting bobbin plate

Is the needle inserted correctly with the flat side at the rear and fully up into the holder ?

If yes, take off the needleplate, remove bobbin case and slowly rotate the handwheel towards you watching the relationship between needle, and the "hook" of the moving "race".

Set on wide zig zag........when the needle is fractionally past it's lowest point, and starting to rise, the hook should be level with the left side of the needle when on the right hand stitch of the zig...the eye of the needle will be below the hook, and ready for thread to be picked up for the stitch to form.

Any other result will mean your timing needs adjusting.

SOURCE: Needle hits the plate that is over the bobbin.

If possible hoop the item. I have found that any item that has any thickness causes the presser foot to be pushed forward and the needle hits it and breaks. If you can press the item to lessen the thickness this may help. I spoke to Singer (I am a Singer dealer) and they did not have any help for this other than to recommend that the owner cut out the back of the foot. I don't think that would be a solution as it would be difficult to cut out the back of the foot and still have smooth edges, also it would cause the foot to be weak and possible break or bend. Good Luck

It happend to me aswell , not getting the source of the problem!
Then I noticed that the bobbin casing was out of the original position, take the whole casing out and make sure that when you put it back that the small metal tension loop at the front side on the right is correct, this image you can see in your handbook, (placement of the bobbin casing)

SOURCE: My needle was hitting the

The most common reason for this is that the bobbin case is inserted the wrong way. There's a slot on the bobbin case. When it's inserted into the machine this should face up. The needle comes down through this slot and picks up the thread from the bobbin. If it's put in the wrong way the needle hits against the case and cannot get through to the thread on the bobbin.
The other possibility is that the new needle doesn't fit properly. It may not be pushed fully up into the machine. Sometimes this can happen if the needle is too thick for the machine or if the screw wasn't loosened enough to allow the needle up fully.

My needle is hitting the metal plate on a singer cg590 sewing machine. Is there a way to adjust it back into its correct position?

Your needle plate may have been place incorrectly, and it's easy to do. Even the slightest variation can cause the needle to hit it. Try taking the metal plate off and then reseating it -- testing the needle position before you tighten the screws.

Pixie plus sewing machine needle does not go down into the bobbin but hits the metal plate on top of the bobbin. The needle cannot go through the sewing slot.

Sounds like your needle is set to off-center. Check your manual. You may have a straight-stitch plate in your machine but you have it set to stitch off center or it is set to zig-zag stitch and the needle is unable to clear the stitch plate.

Check whether the needle is installed correctly - maybe it's turned around from machines you are used to. Also verify that the needle plate is installed correctly, not upside down (may be possible on some machines). If the needle and plate are installed correctly, then something is out of line, and you're owed a free adjustment or repair from the manufacturer.

This machine, when you have it on straight stitch, will sew with the needle to the left. If it's hitting the pressure foot, you may have the wrong pressure foot on the machine. If it's hitting the needle plate when you have the pressure foot removed, it's possible you have set for zig zag and you have a straight stitch needle plate on the machine. I believe this machine came with 2 needle plates. One for straight stitch, and another for zig zag.

THe needle hits the base plate about 1mm on the far side of the hole.

You may have the stitch setting on the left/right(depends which side it hits) setting, or the needle is un-noticeably bent. Depending on where the needle hits, if you are in zig-zag mode and it is hitting the base plate(wide slotted base plate req'd) the machine may need re-setting of the needle stops(if fitted). This is uncommon so its more likely to be a bent needle.

Hello,
Here are a few things to try.

* When you insert anew needle, make sure it’s positioned correctly. Usually with the flat side
away from the bobbin, but consult your manual. Make sure that it goes all the way into the holder, and that the screw is securely tightened.

If there doesn’t seem to be a problem with your needle, try the following:

* Check your pressure foot
Make sure it’s attached securely.

* Change your pressure foot
Your pressure foot may be bent, causing your needle to hit it.

* Don’t sew over pins
A needle that hits a pin can break. Always remove the pins from your fabric before they reach
your needle.

* Don’t pull your fabric as you sew
You could be bending your needle back, causing it to hit your needle plate instead of going into
the hole. Just guide your fabric, letting it feed on its own.

* Check your needle plate
Make sure it's securely in position.

* Change your needle plate
If you’ve been using a straight stitch needle plate (a plate with a small hole, often used for
sewing fine, delicate fabrics), switch to a needle plate with a wider hole.

* Check the position of your needle
Sewing machines with zigzag capability allow you to adjust the position of your needle – right,
left, or center. If your needle is not positioned correctly, it may be hitting your needle plate or
pressure foot.

I hope one of these solutions help you.
