If the motor shows continuity (Yellow and Blue wires), then you don't need to replace the heat protection fuse. Check the small circuit board in the plastic housing with the wires going in. Use your ohmmeter across the small 220 mfd capacitor to see if it is shorted - which was the problem with my daughter's VSM700. Replace with any small 200UFD capacitor that is over 10VDC and orient the cap so the negative lead goes to the half moon of the silkscreen on the top of the PCB.

The best you can do is to send it right back and make them fix it right... there is nothing you can do with that motor to make it run better..

You need to remove the motor and find the heat protection fuse on the side of the windings. The fuse is rated at 140 and has a red tip. You might be able to get one from Radio Shack but Viking sells them for $3. Solder into place and take care not to overheat while doing so.
