Re: no picture no sound

This is most often caused by a faulty lamp or faulty ballast. try resetting the tv by unplugging and leaving it unplugged for 5-10 minutes or so, plug it back in and check it.

you should be able to find the replacement parts via

ballast is part number BP4700017A
lamp is part number
compatible cheaper lamp part number

hope this helps,

Usual cause is short cct line out transistor or transformer . That my friend is about as far as one can go using guess work

The problem is either the power/inverter board or the lamps inside the LCD panel. if one of the mini florescent lamps fail to start up the inverter section of the power/inverter board senses this and shuts the set off and registers the error. If none of the lamps light up, then the board has to be bad (not all of the lamps can go bad a the same time). These lamps are similar to those in shop lights (just smaller) and eventually they will go bad. When a lamp fails to light up then it could be that stage of the inverter or the lamp. A technician is neede to determine which is bad.Knowing this, here is a way to temporarily over-ride the shutdown, you should do this in a room that is as dark as possible to see what the back lights are doing during the couple seconds they attempt to light up. If it never lights up, then you can replace the board yourself . If it lights up and shuts back off then you need a technician to determine if it needs a new panel or the board.
To over-ride: unplug the AC cord, press and hold the [volume down] and the [input] buttons on the TV keyboard while plugging in the AC cord. hold these buttons until the indicator turns green, then release them. when watch what happens. If the green light never shows then do again (you will need to unplug the AC cord for over 30 seconds between each try).

Pix shuts off, green light starts flashing, pix comes back and shuts off again

If you have an issue where your picture turns off and the green power light starts flashing, you are most likely looking at a weak or old lamp. Do not be confused with a pix loss and a RED light flashing, as this can be caused by many things. The normal sequence of events for this fix is this:
1) TV turns on normally, plays for 1 to 3 minutes (may be more or less time)
2) Picture goes out and green power light begins flashing. It may flash for up to 2 minutes
3) green light turns on solid (stops flashing) and picture returns.
4) Picture goes out again and process repeats.

You may have been told that "if the lamp light isn't on, it isn't a bad lamp".
A weak lamp will cause the process above to occur. Other signs of a weak lamp:
The reflector in the lamp is very cloudy
You may see a "growth" or "bubble" on the vertical glass tube which is the lamp
You haven't replaced the lamp in quite some time or it is the original lamp from when you purchased the TV.

In cases like these, try a new lamp. Stick with an original Sony lamp, as there are many stories (both personally witnessed by me and also documented on the web) about problems with after market replacement lamps. And remember, lamps DO NOT have a shelf life; you can store them in a good environment (not too hot or cold!) for an indefinite period with no ill effects.

Power light is flashing 3 times consecutively. When hitting the power button the fan comes on then shuts back down..then starts flashing the red light again..I've recently bought a new lamp and installed...

Put lamp cover back in its place as 3 times blinking light shows lamp cover has not been fixed.
Lamp cover is first thing that you removed to replace lamp in tv, make sure it is fixed securely in its position.

Green light flashing & no picture on Toshiba 40pw13p

There is problem with the lamp. It might need to be replaced. The lamp unit is on the bottom-left side of your TV. Loosen thumb screw (by hand) to take the the lamp unit door. Using a screwdriver, loosen two screws of the lamp unit and carefully pull the lamp unit out.
Put a new lamp in reverse order.

Blue screen with Green Star-burst image in center?

Here's something that might also be useful. After you turn on the set, and get the regular red blinky lights, hold down the Device and Menu buttons together for about 5 seconds.
The Power light will start to flash in a two digit sequence.

For example, 3 flashes, then 7 flashes = 37.

Here are the error codes, and the corresponding problem:

12 = No error detected, check power supply.
32 = Lamp Cover is open.
33 = Air filter cover is open.
34 = Lamp abnormality
36 = Light Engine (DMD or Lamp Fan stopped)
37 = Exhaust or Lamp Ballast Fan stopped
38 = Lamp Temperature High
39 = DMD Temperature High
41 = Short is detected
44 = DVI cable between FMT and Engine disconnected

No picture, won't turn off

the noise you hear after the melody would you describe it as like a buzz or a small chainsaw? If so you have a bad color wheel assembly. If the noise is intermittent than your issue could be the ballast that controls the lamp. If you've already changed the lamp the next step should be the ballast.

Samsung 46" DLP

HLP, HCN HL-S The Start-up Problem or/and
3 LEDs in the front blinking.

Unplug the set, pull out the lamp module (not all the way - leave it on the track) and push it back in.

Power issues (Tv not turning on) were typically due to faulty ballast. While the TV reports a bad lamp it is the ballast itself causing the issue. Samsung is well aware and will replace both the ballast and the lamp (since the lamp can be prematurely aged but the bad ballast). After replacment most people stop having issues.

PT-45LC12 wont power up

You have a bad lamp. The "clicking" sound you hear is the ballast (lamp power supply) attempting to start the lamp. The warning on Panasonics that comes up on screen does so when the life expectancy of the lamp is approaching. Otherwise your "clicking" sound and the red light on front are saying bad lamp. When you replace the lamp remeber to follow the instruction that Panasinc provides with the new lamp on restetting the lamp timer. This is usually done with the volume down on the TV and the PIP button on the remote.
