Did what you said, Refrig still acting the same. When started the refrig back up temp in refrig was 59 F
    freezer 58 F after 1 hour refrig was 49 F and freezer 58 F. What's my next step?

No change in refrig and freezer. Both still about 50 degrees F. I think you may be right about the compressor. I can hear it coming on and off more than usual. Is there anything else I can check before calling a repair man?

Sounds like the relay needs to be replaced for the compressor. It is relatively cheap and simple to replace. You can find a new one on repairclinic.com and if for some reason if replacing it doesn't fix the problem, send the part back within 30 days. Let me know how this turns out.

Start with cleaning the coils, take off the bottom grill on the front and use the small thin vacume attatchment to remove all the dirt & dust. Then use vasalen and put a thin layer on the door gaskets, the flat part that makes contact with the ref, do this on both doors, your doors will seal much better. Then unplug the unit for 1/2 hour. This should get you running just fine

It will take up to 12 hours for the temp to regulate, keep listening to it, if you hear it kicking on and off more than before it might be a compressor issue. Let me know what temp is in a few hours. And try to keep it closed as much as you can.

Refrigerator

The self defrost mechanism is not working. The evaporator is getting blocked with ice, an insulator, and that affects freezer as well as refrig temps. When you unplug unit the ice melts and it will work till the ice block returns.

What are the settings that the freezer and refrigerator should be set on when they delivered mine the freezer was on 0 and frig on 37 they didn't change is this normal

That's what mine are. It may be showing what it's set to, not what it is. If it got colder, then it must be working. Mine is a Samsung and when it warms up, you see the current temps on the display. Mine defaults at 0 and 37 also.

Freezer on side by side is not working properly

Good Morning Friend,

I understand the freezer portion is not working properly on your Frigidaire refrigerator, model# GLRS234ZA. I suggest resetting your appliance, by either unplugging it or shutting the power off at your home's circuit breaker, for 3-5 minutes. Restore power and make sure the temperatures are set to 0 degrees for the freezer and 37 for the refrigerator. Give your refrigerator 24 hours to stabilize at the set temperatures. I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if your appliances status has changed successfully. Hope this is helpful.

Fridge and freezer at 50 degrees with settings on max cold. I can hear compressor cycling and all power is on. Suggestions?

Your Refrig/freezer should be set as follows:

Refrigerators: 36 to 40 degrees. Ideal temp is 37 Fahrenheit. Note: A temp above 42 degrees promotes bacteria.

Freezer: temp should be -5 to 6 degrees Fahrenheit. Ideal temp is 0 degrees.

Then check the door seals around the edges to see if any splits, tears or cracks have messed up the seal. This will cause your compressor to constantly run as it's trying to cool off the warm house is being sucked into the freezer (or Refrig). A sure sign the door seals are damaged is lots of ice in the freezer door area or water pooling in the bottom area of the refrigerator.

Wait about 4 hrs after you readjusted the Refrigerator/Freezer settings so everything settles down. If you still have problems then the coolant may need to be serviced (topped off) or the motor serviced/checked.

Don't procrastinate because a water heater and Refrig/freezer are the 2 largest energy users in your home- they run 24 hrs a day.

Hope this helps...

Frigidaire refrigerator with a broken freezer

He is correct. The temp in the refrig controls how often and for how long the refrig runs. Lets say the temp in your garage is 34 degrees, and you have your refrig set to 36 degrees: The refrig will never run, the fresh foods section will cool to 34, and the freezer will warm to 34. Even if the temp is 45 in the garage and you set the fresh foods to be 33, the refrig will not need to run long enough and often enough to keep the freezer temp cold enough. You will most likely need to have the ambient room temp at least 55 degrees to get satisfactory refrigerator performance. Insulating the refrig will not help. (by the way, outdoor beverage vending machines use an internal heater in cold weather to prevent liquid beverages inside from freezing,..... so using that info, you could put a low wattage heater in your refrig to make your refrig run enough to make the freezer section work. The %&#* with that, just move it into the house!)

Freezer set to 0 actual temp - 1 Refrig side set to 37 actual temp drops to 30 and frezes items in refrig.

Set the refrig temp to 42 degrees . Also check to see if the damper (top left in refrig section ) is closing to stop the air flow into the fridge section . Sometimes they will stick due to ice build up inside the damper . Sometimes also , putting a knife inside and wiggling it around , will break it free , however , it may have to be replaced along with the #1 thermistor .

Top mounted freezer on refrigerator not working

Move the refrigerator to a room that is at least 50 degrees F.

Temps on most refrigerators are regulated by the fresh foods temp. If your garage is let's say 35 degrees, the fresh foods temp will most likely never raise enough to turn the refrigerator on. With the refrigerator never running, the freezer compartment will warm to 35 degrees, resulting in everything melting. Even if garage is a bit warmer, say 45, the refrig will not run long enough for the freezer to maintain a low enough temperture. If the garage temp falls to below freezing, say 20 degrees, the food in the fresh foods compartment will freeze. (outdoor beverage dispensers have internal heaters to prevent product from freezing !) Please don't rate this if not a Fix-Ya for you, as anything else lowers my score.
