Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have a mitsubishi vs-5042 projection tv. It's old but still working. Is there a capacitor kit I can buy for this tv? And or is there something else I can do to keep it going. The projectors are a bit worn out, but it still works, I just want to give it some new strength.

To my knowledge there is no capacitor kit . With this sets age, you would have to replace way too many to count to even consider doing.
It was a very fine product for it's time, but it may be time to let it go in peace.

I have sound but no picture it is a mitsubishi tv projection tv vs-5042 I was told it may need to cleaned not sure how to clean it or if that needs to be done

Hello more than likely you have lost heater voltage to your CRT, also may of lost High Voltage, but usually when you lose HV the set will shut down. This model is notorious for open Heater voltage resistors.

Have a technician come out and confirm.

VS-5042 Sound but no picture

It is not bulb, are you talking about the tube ? At the neck of the tube you will see some connections.Carefully abserve if any cracks on the solderings(we call them DRY SOLDER), then connect them with soldering iron. Always make sure you have disconnected the TV from the mains. If the problem still persists, you will need to reffer to a qualified and Experienced person. He need to look for the LOT section(Auxiary power supply), video amplifier, CRT sections.

Mitsu vs-5042 Works then picture goes out. Thumping works sometim

If you occasionally have a picture then you stand a good chance of repairing this tv. There are bad grounds on the deflection board. Start with the board that has the flyback. I do not know the year of your tv. Sometimes the same model may have an option improvement than one couple of months earlier. The first suspected problem would be the vertical IC. In some cases this ic is located on the convergence board and in others the flyback board. It has seven pins and is the TDA version. Located on a large heatsink. Resolder this and any other grounds on both board. Some will tell you the P I P board is bad. This is a free standing board that can be removed and replaced. But please do the earlier option first.

OK this problem is caused by a failing electrolytic capacitor back in the power supply. It's job is to filter AC interfence from that voltage source. Locating the correct capacitor is something not for a do-it-yourselfer. A respectable tv shop experienced with Mitsubishi tv's can usually repair this problem in your home. Average repair cost would be between $200 and $300.
