Ryobi 40v trimmer stops working with 1/2 charge left on battery

My Ryobi 40v trimmer is no longer working as long as it used to. It starts dying with 2 and sometimes 3 of the 4 lights still lit. It charges fine, no red lights on the charger. When it's done, the charger light is solid green and all 4 lights on the battery indicate. Is there any maintenance or reset I can do?

Battery is weak. Those lights are really useless...more a marketing gimmick. It almost sounds like it developed a memory...this happens when certain types of batteries are not fully discharged before being placed on the charger. Replace the battery and make sure to follow charging directions for that particular type of battery

Testimonial: "I did follow the charging recommendations: took it off the charger after full charge, etc. It is 3 years + 2 months old and the Ryobi warranty is 3 years. :( I'm taking it to an authorized Ryobi support center and he says he will see what he can do but he is 3 weeks backed up on them."

Ryobi RY40002 String Trimmer motor runs slowly and rough

Question edited to add FULL make model (what it is).
Category moved from Washing Machines to Ryobi Trimmer.

Replace the spark plug. Strip and clean the carburetor. Replace the fuel with fresh. But hang on though, the RY40002 is electric and runs with a 40 volt battery, so no spark plug and carburetor! :>D Replace the battery, lubricate everything from the motor to the head. Check the motor with nothing attached to it. The carbon brushes may need replacing or its bearings need greasing.

I bought the Ryobi 15 in cordless weedeater today. I charged the battery. Now I can't figure out how to get the battery back off the weedeater to store it. Can you help? Instructions not helpful.

Do you mean the Ryobi 40V X-head cordless string trimmer? This model has a 12-15" cutting width. For the 40V battery, you remove it by pressing and holding the latch button at the bottom of the battery (on the side closest to you). Then pull the battery out of the power head, exactly reversing how you slid it into place. Do not release the latch button until the battery slide free of the tool. The latch is usually stiff and takes a lot of force to hold down. See Fig 4 for the position of the latch in the manual: https://images.homedepot-static.com/catalog/pdfimages/fa/fab7f50b-d65b-40de-9e1c-5fecce2436f5.pdf . The same directions apply to removing the battery from the Ryobi 40V string trimmer with the fixed head.

For the 18V batteries, there are two latches, one on each side of the battery. Press and hold again. These are so stiff that my mother and I often need someone else take off the battery from any of the Ryobi tools. (We're both about 5' tall and 100 pounds. The tools aren't designed for our proportions.)

I hope this helps.

Ryobi 40V 2.6A battery. When I put it on the charger the charger blinks green for about 10 minutes and then goes to solid green. However, after 5 minutes of use my Ryobi trimmer dies. I repeat the...

From your description the battery is probably faulty. If the batteries are still quite young it is possibly just one cell and while Ryobi don't refurbish batteries there are companies dotted around that do.

If it is a nicad battery, Ryobi told me just a couple of days ago they no longer supply nicad replacements and expect everyone to upgrade to lithium, which means also buying a charger.

Fuel mixture ratio for Ryobi SS300 weed eater

Are you sure about the model number? I see several 30CC engine string trimmers by Ryobi. Two are the Ryobi RY30040B (SS30) and a RY30544 (SS30).

For both of these models, mix a high quality 2-cycle engine oil at 2.6 oz. per gallon of gasoline to pour into the gas tank. This ratio is used in several other Ryobi string trimmer models. Many Ryobi product manuals are available here: https://www.ryobitools.com/power-tools/support/manuals . Most Ryobi gas powered and 40V battery-powered tools will have a model number that starts with RY. The 18 V battery powered models often start with a P.

I hope this helps. If you add a comment with the actual model number, I may be able to provide more information.
