HELP ... After a couple of days, i decided i wanted to install windows XP on my computer, since windows Vista is very slow(although i have 2 GB of RAM), so i have to boot the cd, but not from the OS, so i do as usually for my other computers, Insert CD, Restart, Wait for the "Press any key to boot from Cd..." and Install!!! So the main problem is: I can't see the ("Press any key to boot from Cd...") Messege, which means i cant install!!!! Please help me, does this has to do with the steps i did, i tried reverting them but it did not work....

Ok
For that check in bios that first boot device is your cd or dvd rom.

When you power up the computer pressF2 or "del" key to enter in bios then go to boot option then set first boot device as your cd or dvd rom then save settings then exit.
then check.
Also you can boot your cd or dvd with F12 key
Press F12 when you power up then select your cd or dvd for boot.

Please rate solution if it helps you.
Thanks for using fixya.

Dear Guys,Windows Vista is very slow.

well first of all vista is slow and ur system may be a bit to old for vista, but thats cause vista is stupid, see vista will do ten things to do one thing! make sense see vista is just a pretty version of xp, Your computer is fast but also you installing a horrible OS on it, just stick with XP man unless you really liked vista then just a newer computer will solve this, just stick to XP.

LOL ok 2 GB harddrive haha ur Operating System is at least 9 GBS lol maybe you meant 20 lol

I have Windows Vista Ultimate, my computer was running slow, so I decided to reinstall the OS. It boots with no problem and goes as far as setting up your computer. Then a window pops up stating windows...

Your missing the files that load the operating system. Put the vista disk back in, let it run and it will eventually ask if you want to setup or repair. Choose repair and then type "fixboot". That will fix your master boot record so the operating system can load.

More ram and vdeo card

it sounds as if your MoBo is seeing the video adapter as a source of ram. if that is the case, then installing memory in units of 1Gb will cause a stick to not be seen, therefore utilized. you may want to refer to you manual for memory limits and poosible comparibility issues. they are usually quite in depth. also, make sure that they are all the same make model and speed. these issues have wreaked havoc on the prettiest of pc's.

Hard Drive Problem

Greetings...

You have 3 paths to look at and you also need to think about the need to change out Vista for XP...

Vista has gotten a bad rap on being something that does not work... it works fine... unless you have some very old program that you have to have for your job, Vista will work just fine...

Now... 1. you can install a boot manager and have both Vista and XP on your computer... 2. you can reformate you HD and install XP, you have an XP disk and code??? 3. you can run Virtual PC on Vista and install XP, still need the disk and code...
Virtual PC will allow you to fire up XP and run it as a separate program on top of Vista... and it's a free download...

Still I would look at just why you need to change... I have been running Vista since before it came out and other than a couple of programs in the beginning were a problem, everything works just great...

Have a great day...

Switch from Windows vista to Windows XP

If the laptop came with Windows Vista Home you can't really uninstall it. You will need to wipe out everything on the computer and use a Windows XP disk to load that on your computer.

Equipment needed -
1. Valid Copy of Windows XP
2. USB Floppy Drive w/ Disk
3. Windows XP Drivers

***Also be aware if you do this you will lose any of the programs that came with your computer if you wipe it out. I HIGHLY recommend making your Vista recovery CDs before attempting to install another OS. (You can do this from the Acer manager)

Note you may also need access to a USB Floppy drive and a floppy disk with the SATA drivers for your motherboard on it. ( If it has an Intel processor you can probably get it from intel.com, otherwise you'll have to track down the manufacturer of the motherboard)

I would also download all the Windows XP files from acer ( here ) as it will make you life easier later.

Now you'll need to insert the Windows XP disk and turn on the computer. It may ask you to press a key to boot from CD, go ahead and press a key if it asks this.

It will now start to install windows XP. During the first few seconds there will be a message that says "Press F6 to install 3rd party drivers" --- Go ahead and continue with the install. If you get to a screen that says there is no hard drive installed in the computer you'll need to reboot it and press F6 at this screen. Please have the floppy drive plugged into the computer but no floppy disk in it while the computer is rebooting. After you press F6 it is ok to insert the disk into the drive. It will continue to load for a few minutes and then give you the option to install the drivers you need for the computer to see your SATA hard drive.

After that mess it will ask you where you want to install windows too, and you'll want to have it do a quick format in NTFS. Screens and extra info can be found here.

When windows is done installing you'll want to pop the CD in with the drivers you've downloaded and install everything to get it back into working shape.

This is a fairly long and complicated process. If you have trouble you can pop in your recovery disks, reboot the computer and it will set the computer back to the way it came from the factory.
