It isn't detecting your fan as the fan may be dead or the sensor is dead. Both are not repairable but cheaply replaced and fixed with a new fan. The cost of the replacement cpu fan is not that much compared to a cpu. So don't try to make it last a bit longer by hitting the f1 to continue. That will catch up with you pretty quick.

If you want to double check you need to look at either the cmos setup section of a system monitoring software and check to see cpu fan speed and cpu temps. You may not see the speed but you should see the temps. If the temp is getting over 55-60 or more shut down and go get the fan. It's dead. If you see the rpms showing then you might have a motherboard problem.

However I would say you have a dead fan. Replacements are $5-15 and you need to just crack the case and pull the old one and put in the new one. You can take it to a tech but they will charge you to check it out again and then ti replace the fan and some shops will insist on new heat sink etc (those don't ever ever wear out or go bad at all)

Hi
Recheck the wires connector of the cpu to the motherbord.
If connectors are plugged ok and still having problem consider replacing the fan with new one .
somtimes even when the fan is turnning it is not fast enough to get the cpu cooled.
there are some free wares that can hlp you monitor thr cpu and the cpu fan performance, I'm using speedfan.

hope it helps

Won't start but CPU fan vibrates but will not go full blast. Intermittant

It appears you have a faulty CPU fan and it is causing the CPU to overheat and shut down.
I suggest you replace the CPU fan. remove any dust from the heatsink and put new heatsink compound on the CPU/heatsink.

Computer won't boot

OverheatingWhen the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermaloverload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is theproblem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make surethe vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed airto do this.

Power light on back of Inspiron 518 is on but computer will not start by pushing start button on front panel.

Things to check !..
1st check the CPU fan to be functional cause its failure will lead to this behavior .
2nd check the ram memory ...If it has issues with the ram memory it may not boot at all ..or try to boot but only the fan will start and will make some warning beeps and go in a starting loop ..
3rd is a CPU failure..In this case the computer may start or not ..and in case it starts only the CPU will spin ..but nothing on screen .
In the last case check the wires from the source to the board ...the plugs to be well inserted and the source itself ..(measure ti with something ..or use it in another computer to see if ti is functional ..
Please rate my answer if it helps..have a good day !

When pluged into outlet fans spins and doesnt stop, wont boot

Fan spinning hard is usually a CPU issue.
If you've made any hardware changes to your computer, undo them. This happened to me when I was trying to upgrade my Processor (CPU) and I had the wrong kind.

Does it have power coming in to your CPU? If none try to check the fuse at the back of the cPU on the power supply side.

Cpu fan

There are usually more than one place to plug in a CPU fan. Only one of them is actually for the CPU fan, and monitored by the system BIOS. Make sure your fan is plugged into the right connector.

These machines have a terrible overheating problem! You will have to clean the fan opening and, put sylicon grease on the heat pipe and, heatsink that covers the cpu

Your CPU may have a problem

Have you removed all memory, other cards and unhooked all other drives to see if a short exists there? With a 300W PS some other component may be pulling too much that the CPU can't start so it tells you the problem is with the CPU or The CPU its refering to is on the video card? Good Luck, Tim
