Question about GPS

I have lost the original packaging for my TomTom G0920 and although I have downloaded and paid for an updated map of Austalia, it won't let me activate it without the activation code (which I no longer have). Am now down $900 + $110.....

It's a TomTom. not a Garmin! I've tried the tomtom.com site, but it involves having to correspond with a service person in England. Nothing in Australia. So I wait 24 hours to get each reply from them.

I really need a TomTom expert.

I had a reply from an 'Expert' suggesting I contact Garmin! Garmin don't make TomToms, do they? TomTom does. I need an expert who knows TomToms please.

Thanks for this suggestion. I'll give it a go. The last 'expert' told me to contact Garmin!!!

TomTom will have a record of your activation as it is keyed to your unit code. If you don't want to have to wait all the extra time in communicating with a tech in another country, a search of "TomTom G0920 activation key" in Google yields a number of sites with activation "cracks". When I couldn't wait for TomTom to check their records and get back to me I have used the cracks and they worked for me. They of course do not come with any warranty, so you use them at your own risk. If you do decide to go that route I would make sure any hack I used was the most up to date version available.

Does my tomtom have free new maps

If you had originally purchased a (new) TomTom with a "free" lifetime maps, you can download (from the tomtom website) updates to that map free, whenever that map is updated (usually four times a year).
If not, you can buy/subscribe to new maps on the tomtom website, (www.tomtom.com). Just click on "Maps & Services" ... and you'll be able to select and buy/subscribe to the map(s) you want.

Update download for tom tom xxl 540s is too big for unit, lost all maps

Theres good news for you, you can get a SD card for your tomtom, and all you have to do is to install or download your maps on the SD card then fix it into your tomtom and you will be able to view your maps from there. For the lost maps, connect your tomtom to your computer, be sure to have your drivers software, then you select your tomtom form your computer, then you install all lost maps back on it by restoring all old maps. But for large downloads, download all new maps on a SD card. That should do the job.
Hope this information came in handy.

Free map update

Even the new units don't come with CD'S anymore as everything is preloaded, But if you download tomtom home from the internet, then connect your unit too the computer it should automatically check for new updates, But you will not get free maps unless you first subscribe to free map updates, good luck.

No Map Found

Not knowing how old your unit is I will be shooting in the dark, but here goes. Please tell me you did a backup as instructed when you loaded TomTom Home! If you did, then simply restore your previous maps from there. If you did not do a backup :( then you may have to wait until Tuesday to get in touch with customer service since holiday is upon us. The activation code is or was included in your original packaging that the XL came in. Good luck and always, always, always backup.

TomTom Go 720 GPS suddenly won't recognise Australian maps has message "You cannot use this map on this device: Australia Regards, Lorance

These error's occur when units have cracked maps put on them.
When you update your tomtom device it will replace the cracked file with the original tomtom file.

these units on ebay are mainly refurbished units even tho they are in 'sealed' packaging, they opened your box, put cracked maps and sell the device for more then what they have paid for it.

Best to take it back to person you purchased it from.

avoid tomtom products from ebay, most of them have cracked maps.

Thanks,
Pabs

Mapshare not sharing

I fixed this by, restoring a previous saved backup on my TomTom Go 910, then i re-downloaded the updated map from TomTom.com, installed it and then all the Mapshare updates were available. Just a bit of advice, be sure to back up your TomTom, you never know when you'll need it !
