Re: carlos

I assume you have switched the monitor cable in the back to your video card before booting up. Also you must disable the onboard video and driver too by Start----->Control Panel----->System----->Hardware----->Device Manager and make sure the driver for the onboard video is disabled. You have to also change the BIOS settings by rebooting and pressing F4, F1, F2 or F6 (varies on computers) Once in BIOS, you have to use the arrow keys, Esc and Enter to navigate. Goto the Video Display options and change the onboard video to your new card 256 MB. Collow on screen promts to save it and reboot again. Should work now.

Dell 690 powers off randomly yet frequently

This problem is common when hardware parts temperature raises over a certain point, and happens for safety reasons.

The temperature problems always come from insufficient cooling, stuck coolers, dust or missing thermal paste on hardware pieces.

You can try opening the case and cleaning the pc using a vaccum cleaner.

Hope it helps.

Remove front panel from dell precision 690

Usually, side casing must be removed before pulling the front panel out.
If you don't notice any screws, there are only clips, but take care when prying it off as there are some wires that lead to the front panet at the power button, leds, etc.

Hope it helps

I don't think that machine has an onboard video card, so try removing the existing video card from it's slot. Clean the contacts on the video card GENTLY with a pink pencil eraser. The eraser has just enough abrasive in it to clean the oxidation off the contacts. Replace the video card and see if it works. If not, test with another video card.

Hope this helps!

I have a Foxconn LS-36 Revision A01 Motherboard. The Model number is: CN-OGC375-13740-5AG-00CU. (The first O might be a 0). At any rate this MB is on a Dell XPS 600 unit, which has died and I have a Raid 0...

Dell has proprietary motherboards, so most retail mobos out in the market would either not fit into the chassis. if the system is still in warranty. call in for a replacement mobo. otherwise try reaching their out-of-warranty dept/ spare parts dept.

Want to Go HD but only have PCI Ex1 and PCI on Dell OptiplexGX520

Yeah, I would certainly look into replacing the motherboard with something that has a PCI-E 16x slot so you can use a higher-end video card. I will forewarn you though, that the power supply will probably have to be replaced with it, as most, if not all, video cards that have HDMI out as an option, will need a little more juice to run (so look into getting something at least 520W rated, especially considering what else you plan on running in the computer, blu-ray included) I can't remember how the HDMI rules work on an ATI card, but I do know that if you get an nVidia card, for HDMI to carry both video and sound signals, it has to have at least the GT designator (ex GT, GTS or GTX). Hope this information helps you out, and happy hunting!!

Vidoe Card

Yes. Have you installed the software and driver for the new video card? If you had "onboard" video before you may have to turn it off in the BIOS setup screen.  Additionally if you had a different video card you may have to remove the software for it but not usually. Need more help , just ask.

Video card for Dell 531s

This computer uses a PCIe-16 slot, so any half-height dual-monitor card with DVI would do for you. The XFX Geforce 7200GS with 256MB memory has dvi and vgb outputs. It supports the resolution of your 20" Syncmaster, and is around $40 at at this time.
