Question about Yamaha HTR-5630 Receiver

Display shows only L and R speakers.

I follow the instructions in Basic Setup for 5 speakers. The display shows all 5 speakers, then the test that follows on all 5 speakers and test noise comes out of every speaker. When I press set, the display only shows L and R speakers and nothing comes out of the effect speakers (center and rear L and R.

How do I get the 5 speakers to work?

Re: Display shows only L and R speakers.

I have hooked up two of these amps recently (a friend has one as well), and noticed a similar problem; the display only shows L and R. However, if you adjust the levels (specifically, leave L and R in the middle, turn RL and RR almost all the way up, turn center up a little), you should find that while the display only shows your front mains, sound is coming out of all speakers (make sure 'stereo' is not pressed and try playing around with the sound programs). Hope this helps!

Re: Display shows only L and R speakers.

I think you need a digital coaxial wire instead of the composite ones

When I power the unit on, the display has a lot of strange characters showing where it use to show like the station, speakers in use a or b or both etc...

Hi Tristan, please try the following reset: First you will want to press and hold the "MEMORY" button then you will want to also press and hold the "POWER" button, the display will show "TEST" at which point you will want to pull the power cord when TEST is displayed. Please note that when you reset the unit it will be like taking the unit out of the box for the first time. Zone 2 Setup on the RX-V773 using the ZONE2/PRESENCE Extra Speakers The RX-V773 extra speaker terminals can power one set of speakers for Zone 2 or Presence speakers. If the extra speaker terminals are utilized then the RX-V773 cannot be set for Bi Amp (Surround Back/BI-AMP terminals). Setting the Extra Speaker Terminals Note: The RX-V773 remote control will be used to access the On Screen Menu of receiver. 1. Press the On Screen button on the remote control to enter the On Screen Menu. 2. The On Screen display should be displayed on the TV/Monitor. 3. Press the Arrow Down button on the remote until Setup comes up in the screen. 4. Press the Enter Button on the remote control. 5. The Setup Menu will come up across the TV/Monitor screen. 6. Use the Arrow Left & Right buttons on the remote to navigate to Speaker. 7. Press the Arrow Down button on the remote to select Manual Setup. 8. Press the Enter Button on the remote control to enter Speaker Manual Setup menu. 9. Speaker Manual Setup menu with Power Amp Assign highlighted will come up. 10. Press the Enter Button on the remote control to enter Power Amp Assign menu. 11. Speaker Manual Setup, Power Amp Assign menu will come up with Basic highlighted. 12. Press the Arrow Down button on the remote to select 7ch+1ZONE. 13. Press the Enter button on the remote to select 7ch+1ZONE. 14. Press the On Screen button to exit the on screen menu. To control Zone 2 using the RX-V773 remote, the switch at the upper left side (above the BD/DVD Scene button) of the remote must be set to Zone 2. To see the operations on the front of the Yamaha receiver you must press the Zone Control button on the front of the receiver. Note: Only analog signals can be sent to Zone 2. If you want to output the sound from Zone 2, connect an external component to USB Thumb drive, USB iPhone/iPod, Network, AV 5-6 or Audio 1-2 by analog connection. For AM/FM radio the antennas must be attached.

I have a Yamaha RX-V663. I recently upgraded to 7.1, but the 6th and 7th speakers do not activate on DTS HD Master Audio Blu rays. The 6th and 7th speakers do activate on DTS True HD, DTS EX - ES,...

It is unclear to me as to what you mean when you say they do not activate. Does that mean that they just don't play, or does it mean that your receiver doesn't show them on the display? If your not hearing the sound from the speakers, are you sure your dvd movie is capable of outputting 7.1 or is it only 5.1?
If the receiver doesn't show the speakers on the display, try running through the speaker setup again to make sure you selected both sides and rears for the setup.
Good Luck

Our 2nd zone won't work, we get the error saying check SP wires. The wires seem connected correctly. We also can't change the volume on zone 2. The Yamaha unit is working otherwise.

U cant get an amplified out put form ur av receiver for zone 2. speaker a A and B is the same out put of frond left and right. it is not ZONE 2 output. U can get only a pre output for zone to from this receiver. U nee a separate stereo amplifier for using zone 2 .put an amplifier in the other room, connect the zone 2 pre out to it. And do the following setup in ur av receiver .

The receiver shows check speaker cable because its amplifier minimum impedance is 8 ohms . when u connect other speaker in speaker the total impedance will come under 4 ohms. Speaker b is not ZONE 2 in this amplifier

1. press the input selector button A or B to select the source component you want to setup.

2. press and hold LEARN (on remote) button about 3 seconds by using a boll pen or similar object ( SETUP and the selected component name appear alternately in the display window.)

3. press up or down arrow to select "zone2"

4. press LEARN to complete the Zone 2 setup.

5. press source select up arrow to display Zone2 in the window.

6. press an input selector button to select input source u want to listen to in the second room

7. u can control the component by using the component control area button

My surround sound speakers don't work. No power

LCD will display which speakers are active. And this depends on 2 things: the source signal and decoder mode.
If source signal is stereo, only front L+R speakers are used. For 5.1 signal (for example DVD over HDMI / optical/coax spdif) all speakers installed (which are not set to None) are used.
To listen to stereo input signal using all speakers, switch decoder to enhancer mode.

Won't stay on

This is normally caused when the overload protection circuit kicks in. To see if this is the case, unplug everything (except power) including speakers and then power on th receiver. If it stays on then try reconnecting speakers one by one. If one of the speakers causes the failure then follow the speaker wire back to the speaker and examine for damage. If all speakers work then start adding components back one by one and test as each one is re-connected.

good luck
