What are the changes of me having a blown pico fuse? How many are in the set?

  • Roofgoof Nov 25, 2007

I have pulled the Board and replaced the IC's
I did find a bad 125V 5A pico fuse. I am having trouble finding this fuse. Can I use a different type of fuse. I found them on the net but would really like to get it going as soon as possible. Help

  • Roofgoof Nov 29, 2007

I have replaced both IC's and the bad pico fuse. I put the set back together and it still powers up for 3 sec then turns off. The only thing that lights up is the green power button. What do I do next, or what does it sound like it could be?

1)Pull chassis or center PC board
2)Replace STK392-570 IC's
3)Locate green soldered-in pico fuses = use ohm meter
to find which ones are open ( bad ) = replace
4)Reassemble, test

There are a half dozen or more.........different amp ratings-

2,4,5 depending.......If you change the IC's when the problem

is intermittant, no blown fuse ....if you wait = bad fuse....T.

Where are you on this repair?............T.

  • Vista Electronics Nov 26, 2007

Pico fuse is fastest, micro fuse is next and is ok to use. 125v is

no worry, 5 amp is safety issue = do not change amperage.

Last resort = small, glass fuse GMA or F type 5 amp.......

  • Vista Electronics Nov 26, 2007

PS GMA or F type are clip-in.......

You need pig-tail (solder-in)...still GMA or F size.....

  • Vista Electronics Nov 29, 2007

Generally, a missing voltage causes your symptom, usually

an open fuse or a defective power supply part. Also, more than one fuse can be bad.

Have you re-checked all plugs and connectors?

Next = look at schematic diagram...locate fuse that blew, check

to see if it blew again = what circuit is it protecting? Check that

    circuit.......After that,you might need a second on-site diagnosis.

Tv truns on then turns off

if model indicated do the self check it has:

On front of set when green light for power goes out press and hold both the menu and input (source) buttons at the same time for at least 5 seconds and release both buttons.

Power light will then blink a two digit error code like 2 blinks, 2 blinks a pause and repeat it for a total of 5 times.

If set has been unplugged you must plug it back and try to get set to turn on--unplugging clears the errors.

Let me know what error you find and I will tell you what it means.

Yes, if it was fine before moving to downstairs, means it has lose connections or cold solder joints, especially on convergence ICs pins, please re-solder convergence ICs having mark like STK xxx

Tv powers on and goes off after about 3 seconds

This set has a problem in the horizontal sweep circuit or in the main power supply. Most likely a failed component, and the set shut down to protect the rest of the circuit. If you know how to read a schematic diagram and how the circuits operate, then you will need a good multimeter and an ESR type capacitor checker to find out the short in this set. Sometimes the CRTs(Picture Tubes) will leak the coolent fluid out and onto the printed circuit boards. Also sometimes the convergence IC's can cause this problem, but if that is the case the small little pico fuses will pop also. If you have had no solid state or printed circuit repair experience, play it safe and call in a trained tech. Good Luck

Convergence - bow problem

If you know how to solder on a solid state pruinted circuit board, try to first resolder the convergence IC's. There are two of them, they are black and stand up on a metal heat sink. The IC's will start with stk and have some numbers following that. Sometimes you can get away with resoldering BUT most of the time they have to be replaced. Consult a trained service person if you dont have any TV repair experience as thei like I said is a solisd state set and trhere are really no user replaceable parts inside of them.

Mitsubishi WS-55807 "Bow-Tie" Problem

If your not a tech, its highly advisable to not even open the set because of the high voltage and x-ray radiation issues. Now if your a technician ,you gonna need to get a service manual, Look up the convergence circuit, Find the two or three convergence driver ics, find the b+ feed resistors to those ic, and order the exact replacement parts. if you dont replace all at once, and with exact replacements, you will be in the same boat a few months down the road. This is not a repair a handi-person should consider doing as even if you get the ics replaced, your gonna need to do some minor or could be major convergence alighnment and your gonna need a cross hatch generator to do this. This repair should cost ya about 300 to 400 bucks? Sorry man Good Luck
