If you feel comfortable testing integrated circuits, you might look to see if the circuit board has a display driver ic. It could be defective, and much cheaper to replace than the whole board. The going price to repair the board itself seems to be about $39. Check other posts to see who does these repairs.

You'll need to replace the control panel. Usually very expensive.

I just purchased a Hamilton Beach microwave. The display light is so bright that it hurts my eyes. Is there a way to dim it?

You would have to send it to the manufacturer. I know how but have no schematic to accomplish this. Brightness is controlled by a resistor that limits power to the display. Sometimes it is done digitally and involves reprogramming.

The owner's manual (here) does not mention that as a feature, so I would assume the oven has a defect and would need to be returned to your dealer to be exchanged under warranty.

Sharp microwave r610dsa - display faint - barely visible.

We regularly repair such control units for customers nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week or so with a one-year guarantee.

We have the full service manual at our site, which contains the specific safety & disassembly information you'll need here.

If you decide to send yours in for repair, we would really need the front door panel assembly (which contains the keypad, display board and connecting cable) as well as the power board to which the cable connects, as shown in the manual.

If you prefer, you can order part number DPWBFC212WRKZ (CPU/display unit) for $73.33 plus shipping from Encompass here or you can call them toll-free at 866-779-5835.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number from the tag on the unit) for more information & help.

PANASONIC NN A 770SBBPQ

The first thing to try is a "hard reset". Unplug it from the power line for a few minutes, plug it back in, set the clock, then try again.

Let us know if the hard reset doesn't fix it.

Sharp R-630D

Hi, sorry fixya site is having some problems the experts are not recieving the emails with your response so we have to do it the long way and it takes ages going through all the posts we have helped on.

Ok then if the display is faint then the chances are its going to be the lcd display thats the problem as the display is working its just not lit up so replacing this will solve your problem but its not an easy job to do and is extremely dangerous microwaves are one of the riskiest things to work on as they give of radiation so breaking any seals can cause damage to anyone standing next to the microwavy.

The display is usually lit up showing the numbers but as you can see them faintly this tells us the circuit is okay and not shorting so its not anything drastic but replacing would be difficult.

If the inside is fine where the runners are then the chances are it would be worth getting repaired but if the paint has worn away or any rust is visible then the safest option is to replace it ok.
Let me know if you need further assistance ok

Hotpoint Model #RVM1425WA004

This uses a vacuum fluorescent display. Over time, they degrade in brightness until they're unreadable. GE does not make just that part available, so the whole "smart board" would have to be replaced. It's not too hard for a do-it-yourselfer but certain important safety rules must be followed, such as in "safety.txt" and "disassembly.txt" available at my Web site. You can order the smart board from Appliance Parts Pros for $149.16 at http://tinyurl.com/gv383
