WGR614 Drops Connection To Internet

Sometimes my router connection drops and I can't even access to the router. If IU turn it off and turn back on again, the connection returns, but I have to do this everyday like my other friend with the same problem. Any idea why this happens or how to fix it?. I heard someone that the lastest Firmware version caused problems and makes the connection drop, and that the solution was downgrade the firmware. Is that true?

Since getting a new Dell laptop and Linksys E1000 (also have HP desktop), my internet connection keeps dropping (no problems ever before)- sometimes I can stay online for 2-3 hours or it can go in 15...

we need to first figure out whether it the modem or the router which is dropping the connection.

Please connect one of your computer directly to the modem, by pass the router and access the internet. If the connection drops then its the modem which is dropping the connection and you need to contact your isp to check it.

If the internet works fine directly with the modem then its your router which is dropping the connection. To fix the router we can upgrade it firmware.

To upgrade the firmware please visit the link below;

Note; If you are not comfortable upgrade the firmware then don’t do it. If not done properly then it can damage your router.

Drops the internet connection and has to be rebooted at least once a day.

Try to reduce the MTU of the router. If you're on DSL, set the MTU size to 1492, for Cable connection size is 1400 or 1463. You can do it on the router's admin page

Variable wireless performance

what this looks like is a case of intermittent signal
call ur ISP have them run a line test
if you have purchesed a service that is better than the basic
what could be happening is that the line capacity is to high
(trying to push 100 gal. of H2O in a 1 IN. pipe in 1 sec. cant happen
i work for att. tech. support and sometimes incrising ur speed package will make ur internet sluggish

most routers dont go bad i belive its a line issue

good luck , July

Netgear WGR614 v6 router drops connection

Hi, what ISP are you using (aol,tiscali...?), and how are you connecting to the router? Wired or wireless? I had similar problems with mine, it wouldn't connect or would drop connection, or loose all the settings. I updated the firmware to the latest from here:-

Be sure this is the correct model as firmware differes from model to model.
Then I had to manually configure my ISP settings etc. Or you may have software from your ISP which configures for you.
Hope this helps.

Router Suddenly stopped working...?

try power cycling your network (turn off all of the hardware)
First turn off the computer,
second, the router;
lastly the router (wgr614).

Now, turn the hardware in this order:
  1. Turn on Modem. Wait 2 minutes.
  2. Turn on Router (wgr614). wait 1 minute.
  3. Now turn on the Computer(s).
this should refresh your internet connection. If not, check your routers settings for any wrong info.
to access your router's homepage, type this ( into Internet Explorer.

NetGear Wireless Router - continous internet connection drops

Hi sharon,

If you  upgraded the software but still the connecitons is droping then contact the ISP (the internet service provider ), Because it is possible that they have something wrong thier side,,,THIS ISSUE IS KNOWN AS INTERMITTENT SYNC OR ROUTE,,, check the lights on your router , when the internet goes down which light changes,,,

and once you confirm that the problem is not with your ISP then you need to purchase a new router,

reply which is the ISP you are subscribing for.
