Purchased a Compaq Armada 7800 from a pawn shop. The power cord plugs directly into the back of the machine with no adapter. Does this machine have a built in adapter? Does it have a battery? I dont...

Hi. Yes, it has an "Integrated AC Adapter for less bulky transportation; 8-foot power cord included"

It also has a Li-ion Battery Pack on the left side which provides over 2 hours of battery life - if its OEM, but there are higher capacity batteries you can get for it at amazon or eBay .

This Link will take you to HP's page for more data and diagrams on your machine.

How can I build in more RAMs to my Compaq Armada 1598DT ?

Look at the bottom of the laptop.
With a screwdriver, open one of the "doors" that you see.
You may find an "empty" slot, where more RAM can be inserted.

However, finding RAM that will be "compatible" with your Compaq is not trivial -- if you don't understand "HOW" to do this, *STOP* and take your computer to a computer-store, and let them investigate, and sell you the correct RAM, and will install the RAM, and ensure that it works.

Beeping on start up

Your motherboard has 64Mb built-in RAM and the video card needs some video RAM and has grabbed 8Mb of RAM which leaves the system with 56Mb of RAM. When you insert a 64Mb RAM module you have a total of 128Mb of which the video has grabbed 8Mb which leaves the system with 120Mb.
You can't change stop the video card from grabbing 8Mb of RAM, the RAM is essential for the video to work.
You can upgrade the RAM by removing the 64Mb RAM module and insert a 128Mb or 256Mb RAM module. You may even be able to insert a 512Mb RAM module if the motherboard will accept it, you need to check the specification of your laptop to see the maximum amount of RAM the laptop can handle.

Armada 1700 upgrade

hello
No you cant upgrade your processor.
also to change processor is very complicated in a old compaq.
and if you should manage to find a faster processor to your old compaq it not gonna make your laptop faster. the mother board and ram memory are still to old.

Video probs , screen half size, can't get more than 16 colors

That notebook is too old for XP really. I would either stick with win98 - you can get drivers for the video, sound, modem, etc, from :
http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html?pageDisplay=drivers

Or if the laptop has at least 128mb RAM then Windows 2000 will install all the basic drivers for your system and is fully supported on that system.

Compaq M700 Ram Upgrade the second

i can find no spec on this but,if your notebook can take upt 576MB of memory, i would expect 2 x 256MB to be the max, as installing 1 x 512MB would be doubling the capacity allowed by one module slot.
