Well, since no one is forthcoming with this information, I found out today that the allen wrench on the caliper pins is apparently 7 mm, a size not usually offered on most sets. If you have information to the contrary, let me know. I had the guy at the parts store pull a hardware kit and that was the size. Hope this helps someone. SOURCE: Changing front brake pads

You shouldn't need to remove the calipers altogether just to replace the pads. You have remove the split pins or retaining springs on the old pads, then prize back the caliper pistons enough to remove them. Then push the pistons back some more enough to get the new pads in. Then reassemble and test.

What size allen wrench do I need to remove the front brake calipers

I'm not sure of the size. I have an allen socket made for GM brake calipers!! But i would guess it is a metric size, maybe a 12 mm. Call an auto parts store and they can pull the tool and tell you with a phone call. Good luck.

What size Allen wrench for 2001 escape front caliper?

i just changed my front rotors and pads on my 2001 escape, 6 cylinder. everyone was wrong on the wrench sizes, including the idiots at my local ford dealer. to get the brake calipers off I needed a 7mm hex bit. to get the caliper bracket off I needed an 18mm socket, it was a very easy job but check your wrench sizes first, it seems that every year and model uses different sizes.

Need to know what size allen wrench to take off front disc brakes on 2000 chevy silverado 4.8 l

The caliper guide pins will usually have either a 3/8 inch or a 5/16 inch allen head bolt. If the brake calipers are found to have phenolic pistons then it would be advisable to change them with calipers that have metal pistons.
